Why does KDE look modern but outdated at the same time like make up your mind.

Funny, one of the criticisms I heard someone give of Windows 11 recently was the disjointed settings menus. KDE beats Windows hands down in disjointed settings. Never liked having to dig for settings in KDE.

Catpuccin is the only theme I will ever need.

One of the things I would like to see, and honestly don't know if it ever exists, is the ability to make KD6 to look and behave like a tiling window manager. The shortcuts part should be easy, but if there is a way, natively or using additional pages to change the behavior of Windows and turning their floating properties on and off.

I dunno about pitching Panel Colorizer as a Latte Dock alternative, especially when Crystal Dock exists. It's from the guy who made KSmoothDock -- one of the other docks made for KDE prior to Latte Dock's ubiquity -- but it's been updated to support Plasma 6 and Wayland, though the latter seems to be at the cost of X11 support being deprecated if the KDE Store changelog is anything to go by. That said, it does have extra styles based on all the macOS versions you can think of. Yes, even that one. That one, too.

And I guess while I'm contributing to this video's reach in the YouTube algorithm in the form of a comment, I feel like Klassy is worth mentioning as well. It's similar to Lightly in terms of "expanded Breeze theme", but it still gets updates and its defining functionality kinda just boils down to window buttons from older versions of KDE, as opposed to Lightly's blurred UI elements. Personally, Klassy is a first-install for me when I do a Plasma setup.

I don't know what's so bad about Panel Colorizer, it works flawlessly for me. Wrapping ones head around how it works is a different matter, takes a while to fully grasp, or maybe I'm just thick-headed, idk.
Another great KDE customization that the author of Panel Colorizer has made is "Smart Video Wallpaper Reborn", and it works almost like how Wallpaper Engine does, by playing a video on your desktop. You can also specify a video for your lockscreen.

The complexity of customizing KDE once again confirms my decision to continue with Gnome. KDE seems to be a desktop manager for tinkerers willing to invest a lot of time in what should just be a ready-to-use tool.

Does anyone know what theme and wallpaper is used at 6:40?

I’m glad that KDE6 generally looks the same as KDE5. From 4->5 was a massive jump in appearance. I was afraid they’d do something like that again when 5 is already nice. I did switch to i3 though. I wanted something that lived nicely in a single config file

Plasma is fine but I'll never get over how their design language is so inconsistent across the board.

I remember using it as my DE some years ago, I remember the good things about it.

Some weeks ago I gave it another shot and I could not live with how everything is arranged within each program. It makes itself look not ideal when it could simply look perfect

Since the death of latte-dock, Plasma is not the same. With latte-dock it was not a Plasma DE but rather Latte DE, that is how massively it changed the desktop. Now, although there are some qt-6 widget ports that attempt to do some parts of latte widgets, it is never complete. What I really loved and need is:
- upper panel (possible)
- it has to have window buttons, only when a window is maximized (probably possible with the new qt-6 button widget)
- it has app title showing only window maximized state (probably possible with the new qt-6 button widget)
- appmenu (there is Plasma system widget for that, but as I recall, it lacked many features that latte appmenu widget had, but from the top of my head, I don't recall what were those, but I know that the difference was massive, so at the moment, we get only Plasma 6 appmenu widget, with all its limitations)
- the upper bar should change dynamically the background color and adapt icon colors - that was provided by latte (not possible on Plasma 6 to my knowledge)
- window's titlebar should be gone when window is maximized, because the upper panel should have all its elements after maximizing (it was done smoothly by latte, and although possible in kwin, it doesn't work that well, unless something has changed recently)

So basically this was a Mac OS like setup, but with advanced, dynamic upper bar, so it alll worked even better than on Mac OS,

If someone can recreate this old latte functionalities, let me know, but as far I know, current solutions are not as complete. The biggest problem is with the duo: panel background (2 possible states: transparent or semi-transparent when window is not maximized or not touching it + solid when window is maximized, in the same color of the titlebar) and systray icons color, which, in case of mono-colored icons, should change, dependently on the color of that panel. Then add to it, that the color of the panel can change from light to dark depending on the wallpaper! Yeah, latte was doing that!

Good native alternative for latte dock is create panel with icony-task-manager widget
