I agree with you Michael, we dont have the qualifications to judge. We should instead pray for a spirit of docility and seek to learn more about our faith, pray the rosary and asl God to guide us. How can we go wrong if we do this? People dont want to do this, they want their will be done, not thy will be done. Obedience is THE problem and it gives satan most satisfaction to see others fall as he did.

The online representation of catholics is much different than what i can find in reality, i belong to a large parish and we commune and work with other local parishes in the diocese. I would not even know all of the decent for the papacy and magisterium at large and internal strife even exists if not for social media because when interacting with the fellow active parishioners it seems more common that they express a great zeal for the magisterium and want to be adhering to the bishop as closely and effectively as possible i think the voices that break through only do so because they are coming from people who aren’t actually participants of the church in any way other than baptism fc confirmation and marriage or are people who have converted to change the religion instead of allowing it to change them and if i am wrong and this is truly the case for parish’s than i am glad proud thankful and blessed and hopefully your message can help to reform them

Amen brother! I still end up there sometimes. It takes time to learn obedience. The book Second Hesitation says, How can you be obedient to God who you have not seen, when you can't be obedient to the church that you have seen. Or something like that, I'm just quoting from memory, but it's in there.

Hold on. I get your point. But submission is not what Christ taught; quite the opposite, he said he is the truth that will set you free. The Church espouses freedom, not submission. And it has always championed free will as a necessary part of salvation. It also instructs us to follow our conscience. Furthermore, it values education and accepts that theologies may disagree with one another, as when Duns Scotus’s argument for the Immaculate Conception superseded Thomas’s. And it doesn’t always take a theologian to make a theological point, as St. Francis of Assisi and now Pope Francis demonstrate in their pastoral actions, and as any true prophet may show. Finally, as written in Fiducia Supplicans, rules can lead to casuistry; in fact, Jesus was deeply upset by the hypocrisy he found among the Sadducees.

The Church is too smart and true to say “Submit” or else. It understands that the world is a complex place that operates in nuances rather than binarisms, and that the Holy Spirit can work in mysterious ways.

I don’t think it’s necessarily Protestantism, but Democracy. Many people treat the church as they would modern politicians, rather than with more respect than even a Medieval King would command
