I had a good friend try to do an apologetic intervention for me. I’ve been sharing quotes about the church on my FB and dude messaged me. He said “man Tim, I hate to see you going down that false gospel path, if you want I can prove the Catholic Church didn’t exist until constantine.

I listed the popes that we had before constantine was born, then quoted St Ignatius, he hasn’t messaged me back. They truly fear Ignatius!

St Irenaeus Against Heresies book 3 is another one. He appeals to the authority of the Roman church and then says everybody should agree with that church

There is one church tradition that i really like about Saint Ignatius is that when Jesus said that we need to become like children to enter the kingdom of god, saint ignatius was one of those kids that Jesus held and blessed, thus earning him the nickname theophorus or godbearer.

Okay what about the Great schism of 1054? There’s a lot going on there that would imply to me it’s not the same church. It’s easy to use tradition/succession arguments against a causal Baptist. But if you argued this against an Orthodox, not so much.

Ignatius isn’t a catholic . He commands there be elders, bishops and deacons in every church. Catholic Church have priests instead of elders /overseers. And no the word presbyteros didn’t mean priest at that time . There’s another Greek word for priest .

Oh okay let's go back to the earliest writings of the first Pope St Peter, shall we? Let's start with like 1st Peter chapter 5 verse 3 saying that we shouldn't be Lords over God's heritage. But an example onto the flock. Wasn't that like the entire Catholic system. Thus we the ruling class we have the bishops and the popes and we have the Cardinals and all the stuff like that. And then you have the laity when nicolaitans. Which is everyone else. Which is the prime example of a direct contradiction of what the first apostle Peter said to what people currently practice not only in the dark ages not only after the dark ages but even currently. We could also go to 1 Peter 3 verse 1 through 9. Which are all talking about the rules for wives and husbands respectively.. which all Popes are not supposed to be married. You could also go down to 1st Peter 3:18 which says the Christ also has once suffered for sins the just for the unjust that he might bring us to God and then it clarifies what that one suffering was by saying you would put the deaths in the flesh that was the cross. Which is in direct contradiction to Catholic mass.

Then why is it that, when the magisterium quotes the church Fathers, it is considered tradition; yet when a Protestant quotes the church Fathers, it is not considered tradition. Who determines that?

A man can say anything. It’s not the word of God. No Protestant fears that man’s writings. Nonsense.

We should not go to the earliest writings of the church because todays writings, look at the writings 400 years ago when they added these new customs
