Why do I say Heath’s Joker is pure evil, well let me explain. I make the distinction of those who kill out of hate as leaning more towards being broken and those who kill for pleasure as being evil. Joker has been shown to be sadistic: he uses knives because guns are to quick. He takes his time and enjoys bringing out the hidden sides of his tortured victims. He has no sense of honor either. In his very first appearance during the bank heist, he orchestrated the deaths of all of his own men without any care. Beyond that, he wants those around him to kill: he tried to make the two ferries harboring hundreds if not thousands of people blow each other up in a sick game of survival. When neither did, he attempted to kill them all himself before Batman intervened. It’s theorized the detonators could have possibly blown up the same ship it was activated on or perhaps both at once. This would fall in line with the false hope he gives people, just like when he switched Harvey and Rachel’s coordinates. He knew Batman would go for Rachel instead of Harvey. He also made Batman break his one rule to “kill” Gotham’s White Knight (Harvey Dent) after he essentially corrupted him. People make the excuse that he was a victim of abuse from his younger years due to his infamous words “wanna know how I got these scars?”. But in fact, he tells two completely different stories. Yes one does involve his father attacking his mother before turning the knife on him to carve a smile. However, he also tells Rachel the story of his wife and how he gave the scars to himself. So we have two conflicting stories and neither of them maybe true. It’s something we will never know. It’s for these reasons I believe he is truly evil. I’m not opposed to the idea that he was a victim in some form, I think it’s very possible and probable that something tragic happened in his life to change him this way. But alas, that is all conjecture. At the end of the day, I think Alfred truly described him best: “Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.”
