I've cleaned my sensor before but I had no idea that you should replace the solution once a year.

Fun fact: Most sensors have more dust particles than Gene has facial hair

This actually made feel more confident if I need to ever clean my sensor 😂 thank you!

I swear man your content whether I’m sad or happy or about to workout. I can watch it anywhere. Your character and the way you carry yourself is humble, fun and informative.

Dude, just get to a million already. You post so much of the useful stuff plus it's so entertaining. I'm a musician, I have nothing to do with cameras except for making videos for my channel. I still watch all your videos.

I have been cleaning my sensor for years and the product that I use for cleaning is Sensor Swab Kit by Photographic Solutions. I don't have any problems since I started using it and my camera is properly maintained and whenever their are dust build up or marks or spots I can easily clean it

This is helpful Gene. Hopefully I won't damage my lens and my sensor with the help of this video. 👍

Excellent video. Always love Gene's humor. I continue to be fearful of cleaning my camera sensor myself. This helps so much to give me a bit of confidence to go ahead and do it. Many thanks to you both.

"You won't notice how dirty the sensor is until you start stopping down your aperture."

That makes a lot more sense now in hindsight😮

I second that statement about the shelf life of the cleaning solution! Oh man, I had some troubles recently when I had to clean an Alexa35 sensor glass with a bad fluid that would not clean for the life of me. I ended using up 8 swaps and had only two left. It was horrible because I did it the late evening before the shoot and had no other cleaning fluid. I had to sort to 93% denatured bioethanol from the local late-night mart. Not the best, but the sensor glass got clean without any residue.

I have had an Eyelead SCK-1 for 8 years and used on my Nikons without any issue. It is very similar to the cleaner used by Leica cleaning centres so if it is good enough for them then who am I to question.. Whatever you clean your sensor with, be it wet or dry don't worry the protective glass is quite durable and of course enjoy your dust free images.

This was embarrassingly helpful thank you.. Much simpler than I was thinking. And I didn't know about the glass Over the sensor. Makes sense

I think the statement 'you don't start to see that debris until you stop down' is only valid for dust inside the optics or on internal ND filters etc. If you have actual dust on the sensor, it should be so close to the sensor that you will see it regardless of the iris opening.

In the case of cine cameras, I believe you often have an additional piece of glass between the front of the sensor assembly and the actual outside world (clearly visible at 2:12) where, if you do have dust there, it is sufficiently far away to not show up wide-open.

I also use sensor swaps, but before I wet-clean a sensor, I lightly vacuum it with a special setup I have created. This way, I ensure that I don't scratch the camera's sensor during the process. I also vacuum the inside of the camera carefully, again with the special hose/device I have made. This is because if there is dust on the sensor, there is likely dust inside the camera housing, and it's just a matter of time before there is dust on the sensor again.
