Thank you, Dr. Fox for addressing this. Society does not vilify the cancer patient, accident victim, heart attack patient, etc. Yet they are critical of those with brain and nervous system disorders. Anyone with any illness should be treated with respect and get the care they need.

I’m glad my fiancé gets me now. He tries to be supportive and I appreciate it a lot because I can’t even stand myself sometimes. Also, I’m going to keep learning and working on myself

This is hitting home right now. A “friend of mine”, threw words about my mental illness at me from when I was first diagnosed. I reminded her, I never judged her with a life or taking a life decision that was made. You never know what someone may be going through, be kind. ❤ Thank you Dr. D. Fox.

I appreciate your comment and I think about it very much while I'm talking to my spouse who has BPD. However, I do need to bring it up when I in danger or my children's psychological well-being is in danger. It's only weaponizing if using it as a weapon. Sometimes my husband's does well from being reminded when he's splitting. I don't do it in a mean way, and he's not even aware he's doing it until I safeword him. Until I understood what BPD was, I was terrified and confused. Understanding the terms and using them in a way that is helpful for him has helped both of us. Maybe you could explain a dialogue in which it would be helpful instead of just ignoring it. I know BPD is a shame cycle and that's not what anyone wants to do to anyone else, but there has to be a way to make a person aware of their behavior when they aren't aware of it themselves.

Everyone has a mental illness, be it addiction (even shopping), or excessive cleaning, exercise, over working…doesn’t matter, it’s a mental illness. So stop judging, look inside you and be supportive.

I really need more help with this specifically. My situation has evolved into one of abuse, but l can see the terror on his face in his abandonment episodes. I really want to be the person who can support him through, but l am burned out with him trying to fix everything but the root issues. I have sent videos, talked about my fears and stress, and recently been giving ultimatums…l can see him retreating and one night he said he had to leave to keep us safe…he’s not physically violent, it’s abandonment rage.

The first one you mentioned is almost completely created by trauma of any kind in a highly sensitive child/ youngster. The trauma is the cause. It’s a circular argument of using symptoms when the etiology is not addressed. Made out to be all kinds of bad. This is caused by the psychiatric field. The Dx no longer means anything but an insult. It should be eliminated and be more like complex childhood PTSD (we may not know exactly what trauma but it does not matter). Sensitive people are being called the equivalent of hysteric an old term to insult females by the male dominated profession. The other in psych have to go along to get clout or they too will be called heretics in the profession. Time to drop the disorder. Not what’s wrong with you but what happened to you. It’s king overdue. Don’t use the term as a start . Just difficulty regulating emotions and other trauma related symptoms makes sense.

If only it would be an effective cure for bpd, bc the other one suffers more !

What causes all of this relates to the practice of psychiatry and the entire discipline of psychology (both industries) occurring all at once with the rapid acceleration of a Capitalist economy, or maybe, just possibly, the rise of modern, industrial economies.

This is rather a very commonly-held opinion or judgement among critical theorists and sociologists of Philio Rieff's persuasion. (Interpretive (hermeneutical) or historical sociologists).

Question: How many psychiatrists, psychotherapists, or social workers have even a glancing understanding of Alfred Shutz, Max Weber, or C. Wright Mills? Or any basic theological perspectives given by people like Paul Tillich or Reinhold Niebuhr or the sayings of Jesus about casting the first stone?
