Black Myth Wukong has launched and shattered records everywhere. It has taken the internet by storm and it could change the video game industry as we know it. Black Myth Wukong Game Sales have shattered records, putting it in the same league as other favorites like Baldur's Gate 3, Elden Ring, and others. I wanted to take a look at how the China video game market will impact video games across the board. China Video Games like Genshin Impact, Wuthering Waves, or Honor of Kings have placed them firmly on the map. With Black Myth Wukong now entering the single-player space without a lot of the tropes Western gamers dislike it's appealing to everyone. Here's how it will impact the rest of the game industry going forward.

Originally I had a test thumbnail giving a nod to @LegendaryDrops who uses "Wake Up Call" as a headline, but felt weird about using it so I've since replaced it.

The CEO of Game Science is a developer and gamer, not an investment banker. This is the most important thing.

They focused on making a game, instead of going through a checklist. Pretty simple

I watch a Chinese interview with the director of game science.
in his interview, Mr Fung said that game science will take a small break for now, and he said that when the next project come, he expect his team to be fully focused on it. He also expressed his worry that many of his employees got job offers from other gaming companies, but ultimately he said that everyone is free to leave if they want, but if they stay, then he expect 100% commitment to the next project like they did in Wukong.
many Chinese believe that Mr Fung will lead the team into another Chinese Myth for the next game.

The Chinese Mythology really sold me on this game. 4 years was so worth the wait and I haven't been happier for a game. This game has me smiling when I get killed. Why? Because the reward for clearing the chapter finding its secrets and defeating bosses feels like a sense of happiness. Doesn't feel like a grind. Feels like I'm playing the book Journey to the West. GOTY for me!

If it takes you 7 years to make a game, when you don't even have a big budget or staff when you start, and you don't give two cents about demographics or maximizing sales, then it's not so much as a business venture or blind risk, but a project of love, excellence, and personal integrity.

Single player ✔️ not open world ✔️ fun to play ✔️ woke culture eliminated ✔️ not pay to win ✔️ day one purchase

Feng Ji, the producer of Black Myth Wukong, is an idealist, and so is his team. This is very important. Without the control of capital, they only focus on their own ideas. The same story happened in Larian Studios.

Ubisoft is pretty pissed right now as they can no longer continue their crimes by releasing a downgraded retail version compared to demo and get away with it.

Wukong shows gamers a quick glimpse of the golden era of gaming 2000s - 2013!!!! We all want that golden era back where a game is feature complete, bonus unlocks can be earned by playing game instead of paid DLC, and the game runs well with minimal bugs!! It's literally the basic things we ask for and it's the bare minimum, how can they not be able to deliver that unless they are just ignoring us on purpose!! Which by all indications, they were and still are ignoring us, their customers!!

When you consider that it hasn't even released on the Xbox platform yet, and isn't avaliable on the Nintendo switch. These numbers are astronomical.

Just a reminder, Chinese market is huge for game devs not only when they produce Chinese related good games, but also simple good games.
Behind every tens of millions copies sold 3A game, you could easily find around 30% of those buyers are Chinese, the range is about 30% - 60% depends on what games those are. Take two as examples, CP2077 has sold over 25 mil copies worldwide, 30% of them sold to Chinese. GTA V, 200 mil copies sold, also 30% sold to Chinese.

They tried to force Game science to be more woke, but Game science gave them the middle finger.

You are the first Xbox focus channel praising Wukon. And I'm with you, the game is a masterpiece without ignoring some minor issues that doesn't get on the way of having a blast

I certainly hope so. The Western dev scene is an utter graveyard of creativity.

It’s a great game. I had very low expectations going into it because I didn’t think this young Chinese company could pull it off. But oh gosh, they delivered on every aspect you could have imagined.

China is going to dominate the world. It is my second time visiting China, I have been to 5 cities, the infrastructure, cars and wealthy impresses me. So many beautiful places and culture. Much that we hear about China is a lie. Visit china and see for yourself. As for the game, I’m happy a good game is making success amidst so many mediocre games.

Fun fact: the reason why Wukong is such a widely success is precisely because the producer, Feng Ji, who was absolutely mad at the game companies represented by Tencent and Netease which make tons of profits through lesser games. Out of pure outrage, he left Tencent and found Game Science, after 6 yrs devotion and dedication, they finally made it. As a Chinese myself, I certainly hope there will be more Wukongs, but it probably will be the one and only of its kind. The game's success probably won't repeated in the near future. After all, one company alone couldn't save the situation. In the end, game market still.will.be dominated by suck ass games.
