As Mace Windu and Yoda struggled with the Jedi’s new role as military commanders, news reached the Jedi Council that Quinlan Vos, currently undercover, had not reported in since the start of the Clone War. The task of locating him fell to his former Padawan, Aayla Secura. Disguised as a mechanic, Aayla arrived at The Wheel and tracked down Vos. With the help of Vos’ informants, they secured a communication from Nute Gunray detailing a Separatist assault on Kamino. They quickly copied the message and ensured the original was delivered. One of Vos’ spies overheard their conversation and reported it to Count Dooku. This was, in fact, a calculated move by the Sith. By allowing the Republic to become aware of the Separatist attack, Dooku achieved two objectives: first, to quell the ambitions of those within the Confederacy by having their assault fail, and second, to preserve the cloning facilities for use by the Sith after the Clone Wars ended.
