Palomar Knot - How to Tie with Braided Line

Показать описание
The Palomar Knot is one of the most popular knots among the saltwater fishing community. The reason for this is it's impressive strength along with the fact that it's really easy to tie when using a standard hook or small lure.

In this video, you'll see how it is tie as well as how small it is once complete.

Best of all, this video was made while we were performing a knot strength contest across the most popular fishing knots from the saltwater fishing community.

Here's a list of the knots we tested:

Uni Knot (customized for braid)
Palomar Knot
Improved Clinch Knot
San Diego Jam Knot

You make it so simple! Some guys tell you to add twists, loop twice....I’ll use your style!

The knot will not sinch down if the braid is dry, the braid must be very wet.

There is a problem with any knot tied directly into the eye of the hook with braid. Especially with a thinner braid, the knot will occasionally slip into the crimp space on the eye and slip off the hook. A snell knot for example is tied to the shank and will not slip or slide out that space in the eye. Setting a hook can be bye bye if the winds have slid off into that crimp space. I’ve done it twice on a Salmon with this knot.

I have heard from multiple sources that the regular Palomar knot can slip on big fish (stripers) with braid. Some say to go with a double palomar, or fish n fool knot (improved uni knot). Which has tested over 100% strength like the palomar knot but doesn't require put a lure threw a loop, making it easier to ty. It also has better shock rating then the palomar and is almost impossible to ty wrong. This knot is recommended by power pro and beat the palomar on knot warz.

Very clear video, thanks ! I would suggest one improvement to your method, something very basic : Right at the start, do not double the line over before pushing it through the eye - rather push the single line through, then push it back through from the other side - this way you do not singe it down on itself to make the loop beforehand. I believe that may weaken the line, and the knot.
I'd also rather do a double Palomar when using braid.

I always tie the traditional knot and I’ve noticed with braid the knot comes undone so easily and I’ve been looking for a different knot for braid and this helps a lot !

Wow. I've been trying to find a simple knot for braid . This is a really super knot. Works on swivels too etc etc . Thanks so much 😀👍👍

I did this knot, then took the tag end and did a snell knot, then went back through the loop and did a cpl overhand knots. 😂
Going out to try it now.
My line keeps breaking (hook and everything just gone) when I catch heavier fish so I'm hoping this will work. I've got 15 lb braid.
