I didn't realize how much of an accomplished session player Mike was until after he passed. I have been a Bread fan forever. It started around 1969-1970. A lot of my friends just disregarded their music because of their style of play. I think anytime a musical style gets the label "easy listening" in a lot of peoples mind it is "lightweight". But if you failed to listen to Breads music through their albums you would be surprised to find that they had great arrangements and the musicians in the group were world class musicians.
Mike played with so many of the Linda Ronstadt-Andrew Gold-Waddy Wachtel groups. Plus his work with Dan Fogelberg. You had to be on your A game to tour with Dan. Mike fit the bill brilliantly.

Thank you so very much about all of your unique and valuable insights into so many marvelous musician friends of yours!! All of your comments are truly savored by not only myself, but i'm sure by other professional musicians as well. I always loved Mike Botts (the player), and you provide a wonderful insight to Mike Botts the man!!

This show today (Mike Botts) is why I come by here everyday. Leland you do people justice. Only regret I have is Botts should have sung more and put out more albums.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Mike Botts at a local music store where he was appearing to promote, I believe it was Tama drums, as well as to present a drum clinic of sorts. The store manager had reached out to myself and my closest friend as I play guitar and he was a bassist and would we come down to play a bit with Mr. Botts during his presentation. What a gentleman and a consummate professional he was! One of the nicest people I’ve ever met, I must say. I was sad to hear of his passing especially at his age. My dear friend who played bass, with whom I shared many musical and life experiences with, is gone now as well. Thank you Lee, for the memories you share…

Loved Mike Bott’s worked with Bread and Karla Bonoff. Mike appeared on American Bandstand with her in 1981.

Mike was my BF in High School and we double-dated at the All Night Grad Party. I was the one who drove him up to the Crystal Bay Club to meet the Travelers. During his later years, we emailed back and forth when he was on the road with Dan Fogelberg (emails from the bus). I was crushed when I missed him when he came back to Sacramento to have some signings for his album and was devasted when he passed. Miss him all the time. In those days he was like a brother.

I truly loved everything about this. You’re a good man sir! I still love listening to Bread and Mike. He had such a pocket presence. I too loved his gravelly voice. I wish I had the chance to meet him. Thank you honoring him. I could tell you and Mike had a very special bond. I believe he’s smiling down on you and watching over you. Thank you for being you!

Mike played on some of my tracks. He also recorded a project of his own at my studio in Pasadena. Dick Rosmini was the producer. He was definitely one of the good guys.

When it enters, if the drum accompaniment alone to Lost Without Your Love by Bread isn’t enough to make one realize that Mike was one of the best drummers to ever play, the I don’t know what would. A few years back when I found Linda’s 1976 Rockpalast concert film, immediately I had to know “who that drummer” was! She introduced the band members and when I caught his name I researched him. Man, what a talent. A true drummers drummer. He did all the right things back there. God, I miss him....
