Corrective Bunion Taping

This is both pre operative and post operative bunion correction with KT Tape. It will help reduce digital pressure on the lesser toes and protect medial capsule from further damage maintaining good alignment.

My mother’s father had bunions from his parents. My mother’s bunions were quite large. My bunions started by age five. My older sisters/brothers have them as well, but only one has had surgery. My sister’s surgery caused her great toe to be approximately one inch shorter than the second toe. I think the surgeon removed the actual toe joint?? After what she had done…none of the rest of us would have surgery! Our bunions are hereditary, there is no doubt as our mother gave birth to 9 children and every single one of us..from 60-74 years old have them to some degree. Most are pretty severe. I recently retired at 62 and finally have the time to tape and wrap them to give me relief. I also bought a durable pair of square toe box shoes. There is plenty of room for my taped feet and to wear socks as well. I do believe most people, especially women cause their bunions by wearing pointed shoes with high heels. But in my family some siblings were raised in other family households that did not wear tight or church/dress shoes at all. So that was not the case in our family. Nothing is more painful than walking in narrow shoes! 😮

Maybe I'm wrong, but after the tape is put around the big toe it looks like it's starting to turn bit red and starting to cutting off circulation. That's kind of scary. I would think a spacer between those toes would be safer.

The KT tape I have is rather stretchy. Is it better to use a stiffer type of tape? I had to use another piece to pull #1 away from #2. They still touch but it looks better

Will the bunions just go back to their original position right after like toe straighteners? If I have small bunions that aren’t that bad, will I still need surgery or will this correct it over time? And can I do this to my pinky toe as well?

Hi. Is it possible do make an error doing this? I want to tape my feet but am worried that I may do it wrong and inadvertently cause damage elsewhere. Are there any pitfalls to avoid?

Great until you get in the shower and the tape comes off. Better to visit a Pod and ask for a bespoke silicone toe wedge. Same job, lasts months.

I hope everyone realizes that these bunion deformities are caused by the shoes that most of you wear, which elevate your heel and have a closed toe box, forcing your foot into the shape. The answer is barefoot type shoes that have zero drop meaning the soul is the same thickness all the way through and a wide toebox and high flexibility to allow your feet to actually be strong and healthy the way they are meant to be most peoples feet have been whittle down to helpless little labs by the shoes they wore in their entire lives so it’s up to you do you want to change the kind of shoes where do you wanna get your feet cut up by a surgeon?
