You didn’t mention water temperature. Matcha made with boiling water is bitter and astringent, but you should use colder water (140F to 170F depending on the tea). With high quality matcha and the correct temp, it can be delicious without sugar

Just get the big bags at Costco, so much cheaper and will taste just as good if your just going to fill it with sugar and milk.

A really good matcha won't need any sugar, it will have a smooth and slightly natural sweet taste to it.
I use Ippodo horai and it is amazing
