In general the matcha iced latte that I use to make at work used these ingredients and instructions. Though every starbucks was somewhat different, including the one I worked at so take this with a grain of salt.

*Ingredients;*

Vanilla Syrup;

2 Pumps = Small
3 Pumps = Medium
4 Pumps = Large

(Pumps are about 2 Tsp or so)

Matcha:

2 Tsp = Small
3 Tsp = Medium
4 Tsp = Large

Ice:

1/5 Cup = Small
2/5 Cup = Medium
3/5 Cup = Large

(Ice usually had it's own scoopers per size but these are rough estimations.)

Cold Milk:

So just use about 3/4 whatever size cup you are using (Some are taller so adjust)

(Usually they use a shaker that had prepared lines on it to fit the cup size.)

*Instructions;*

Take matcha and milk, use a cup with a lid to shake. Then pour it over the ice till full.

"Fake vanilla extract to replicate the unique Starbucks taste." THE SHADE 😂

Definitely agree that making matcha (and a lot of Starbucks/cafe) drinks at home is way better, and way cheaper/healthier too! At this point, would only recommend going to Starbucks and/or a local cafe just for mental health reasons, as a third-space if you're someone going stir-crazy just staying at home, or going to and from home/school/work over and over.
Parks and libraries are also great third-spaces as well, but there should be more variety in third-spaces out there - and for some people, a Starbucks and/or a local cafe is that much needed third-space.

The vanilla is what really makes it taste like the Starbucks version. I was making mine with just sugar and couldn't figure out why it tasted different. I didn't think it was vanilla. I bought Torani Puremade Vanilla syrup and used it one day to sweeten my drink and then boom I had a Starbucks copy cat recipe.

if you really want that starbucks charm, skip the sifter and let the match powder clump and collect at the bottom

Ex Starbucks barista here. I recommend trying the matcha latte with white mocha syrup instead of the regular sweetner. White chocolate and matcha go so well together.

If you like sweetened matcha, you don’t need to worry about sifting whisking. Add the matcha powder and sugar together, mix dry, /then/ add hot water a little at a time.

The sugar allows the clumps to break up by giving the powder something larger (and water soluble) to cling to. Adding the water a little at a time also gives you the chance to break up any clumps that do form.

It’s not a perfect method, as the pectin in matcha will naturally want to stick to itself as the drink settles, but it’s still a lot easier (if a bit sacrilegious) than busting out a sieve and whisk.

Working in a cafe, you can keep the ratio of water to matcha to sugar lower, making a syrup you can squeeze right into the drink before shaking or stirring.

plus when you make it at home you can experiment with different brands of matcha, different flavors, etc they even sell presweetened matcha powders so if you just want it to be easy its just the powder, hot water, and milk. i think people would be really surprised how nice it is to be able to make all your own fun drinks at home (and the savings is just a big bonus 💁‍♀️)

I started making my matcha lattes at home and I can confirm that it is 100% better. It tastes better and it’s cheaper. That’s a win win.

this is so cool!! as a former barista at starbucks who is obsessed with matcha, I would use confectioners sugar and sift it with the Matcha as opposed adding it to the liquid. And adding the powder into the milk without adding water! the best tool for this is a shaker, like you the kind bartenders use. its a bit more work, but the flavor is MUCH richer! its closer to what Starbucks does, and if you use better quality matcha it tastes WAY better too. happy drinking!

It's better with soy milk. Soy and green tea both have umami flavors. But yeah I just dump some soy milk, matcha powder, sugar free vanilla syrup in a bullet blender, pour it over ice, almost the same.

A lot of Asian markets sell sweetened matcha powder and just blending it with a milk frother and your desired milk honestly tastes identical to the Starbucks one to me.

i just learned how to make my own latte and it is completely worth it. besides it just being better quality, you can also choose how sweet you want it, what flavors to add and other things. plus, i find it very satisfying to prepare!

I like this video! It’s funny I’m getting a lot of matcha 🍵 content all of a sudden, your the second one. I guess that’s called algorithms.

yo i’m a starbucks barista and even though my shift drinks are free i will always make my matcha at home. starbucks (in the US at least) uses pre mixed matcha powder which is just culinary matcha and powdered sweetener. as for proportions, we use 3 big teaspoons for a grande which is 16oz including ice. try shaking it a bit in a mason jar after stirring and you’ll get that frothy texture too :-)

Also an ex-SB barista, I don't understand how every time I order the iced matcha latte it comes out separated with half the matcha on the bottom of the cup. When I made it, I made sure that it was completely mixed even when we were at our busiest... shameful.

Sounds great! How much of matcha 🍵 do you use for this?
