I have both the traditional bamboo whisk and the "frother" style battery powered one, exact one she has in the video. While the frother whisk might seem to be the better choice because of the froth on top, it over aerates the matcha and takes away the flavor. Think about how when you're frothing milk it gets nice and foamy but the natural sweetness of the milk disappears. This is what happens to the matcha. So while aesthetically it looks nice, it's not the best for taste. Also, not all matcha froths and technique and soaking the whisk and type of matcha you use plays a part in how well it will foam. I love my Costco culinary matcha for my cold lattes and baked goods, but it definitely doesn't froth. But the matcha I buy from the Japanese grocery store that's $8 froths up super well and has an amazing flavor on its own.

If you consume matcha with sugar, use a liquid sweetener like honey or agave and mix your matcha in it. Any utensil is fine, I primarily use a straw or knife (a chopstick/stirrer would work fine too). It’ll look stringy and powdery at first but keep mixing it until a thick, smooth, dark green gel-consistency forms. If you like iced drinks and are using honey, dissolve it with a couple tablespoons of hot water.
