What Does God REALLY Want?

In the inaugural episode of the Jimmy Akin podcast, Jimmy delves into the fundamental Christian principle of love, as emphasized in the Bible.

He explains that love is the highest priority for God, citing scriptural references that describe God as love and that highlight the importance of loving God and one's neighbor. Akin discusses the two greatest commandments—loving God with all one's heart, soul, mind, and strength, and loving one's neighbor as oneself. He elaborates on the unconditional and conditional aspects of love, emphasizing that while we must always be willing to forgive, actual forgiveness is contingent on repentance.

Akin also addresses common misconceptions about the commandment to love God and the purpose of prayer, clarifying that these practices are meant to foster love for God and others.

Ultimately, he concludes that love is essential for salvation and living a life aligned with God's will.

Jimmy, I’m dumbfounded! I asked this from God the other day and I was crying so much, asking him. Your video has been showing up for me and I didn’t wanna click…. Imagine my surprise when I finally gave in and you’re answering the question I asked God?

“It’s a good idea to look at the problem in the lens of love.” So well said.

I needed to hear this today. I'm the sole driver/caregiver for my 92yo Nan who raised me. I love her and feel it's my duty to be there for her, but on a daily basis it can be so difficult bc she's become a bottomless pit of negativity and ingratitude in her old age. Every day is never-ending complaints with no gratitude for the blessings we have, everything is just fear and worry and anger. I'm trying to hang in there and trust God's Plan, but some days it's so hard.

What a revelation about forgiveness! I have never considered the view that, without repentance, we are not required to forgive...even though we MUST be willing to forgive. This makes sense, and the fact that we are not trying to be more forgiving than God, which cannot and should never be expected. Thanks Jimmy. God bless you and everyone reading this.

Omg, the part about “what if they don’t repent?” just saved me YEARS of anxiety. I have been feeling like a massive failure for years now because of this. I thought I was going to end up in hell no matter how hard I tried.

If love is to will the good of the other, then we have to know what the good is first before we can love. THAT is what has been missing from all the modern "love" talk that is not really love. To know what is good we must obey legit authority/revelation about moral issues (reason ideally helps but is double-edged). And we must exercise prudence to make sure we are actually achieving the good we seek.

The main concern of God is that you subscribe, like and leave a comment.

Love means willing the good of the other. The highest good anyone can have is to come closer to God. So coming closer to God is what we should pray for, for all people on our prayer list. We should even pray that our enemies come closer to God. This is the best prayer we could pray for them.

If anyone harms me or takes what is rightfully mine, and doesn't repent and try to make it right ("sorry has two parts - first you say it, then you make it right"), I pray for the person's salvation, lighting candles at church and having Masses said for his or her intentions. Praying for someone's intentions means praying for what is truly good for that person, especially salvation. It's not asking God to give them what they're asking for, but what is truly good for their souls.

What a great question…actually it’s THE essential question and yet it’s rarely spoken about. Thank you for reminding us!
