Another thing is the attitude. I don’t want to live in a place where the hostess at PF Changs acts like she’s the heiress to the DuPont family fortune.

I moved to Naples from New England almost a decade ago, best move I’ve ever made. Absolutely love it here!

Owned 2 homes in Naples, FL 1990/2014. Lived there full time 2001/2014. Got out just in time. Moved to Western North Carolina. Why? Naples became to expensive, to crowded, change in demographics, your at the end of the State (400 miles to the Georgia border). The traffic is bad in the summer and awful during winter season. I miss the weather, beach, certain restaurants, and people watching on Fifth Ave. on a Saturday night. Made huge $$$$ on our Real Estate and were lucky to make some good coin when we lived there. The current insurance debacle is just icing on the cake.

1. It is hot as Hades
2. You get half the house for twice the money
3. There is a good chance your home will end up in another part of the state due to a hurricane

Honestly i just miss the old Florida, it needs to go back to what it was pre 2016-2018, it used to be great.

I grew up in Naples back in the early 80’s when it was literally a completely different place. I miss THAT Naples. I now live in NY and go back to visit every now and then and it’s a totally different place. Too crowded and just not the same. It’s still my hometown and always will be. I have too many memories there from my childhood that were so good! It will always be home to me.

Because they have been invaded by people from the northeast who have also made their way up into the Sarasota Tampa area, destroying all the good vibes there as well

We lived in Naples for 40+ years and saw the overwhelming changes that too place there. While growth was to be expected what growth that happened to Naples and Collier County was totally overboard. There was no interest by the community leaders and politicians to help control the growth. All they could see was more money. Back in the 70's they would always say that we will never allow the west coast to become like the east coast. Well it's well on it's way. The infrastructure such as roads and utilities has never been able to keep up with the growth causing many problems over the years. But again, no one in charge seems to care, it's all about build, build build. One of the saddest things is the total disregard for the history of the community and it's natives and long time residents. It's all about taking care of the newcomers and the money that they are bringing with them. There is very little history left of what was Naples years ago.

Probably the worst part is what the cost of living in Naples has become. Over the years they have little by little pushed out the middle class and working families. The cost of housing whether it be owning real estate or renting has gotten totally out of control for the average working person. So many of the people that work in Naples now have to live sometimes an hour away in Lee County as they can no longer afford the cost of housing in Collier County. Don't even talk about getting insurance for your home as the cost is overwhelming that's even if you can get insurance. And if you do don't be surprised if your policy get cancelled with little to no notice. Oh, and don't forget you may need flood insurance too.

Naples truly has many very nice attributes especially if your are a retired wealthy snowbird. There is the beach, golf, dining and the arts. What's not to like as long as you can afford it. But for the average working family those things don't mean a lot if they are always working to pay the cost of living there. Many of the natives and long time residents have left or are leaving as they can no longer deal with what Naples has become or can afford to live there any longer. We left and have no regrets what so ever. While Naples will always have a piece of my heart it's not for me any longer. I miss what Naples use to be not what it's become.

When I moved to Florida my attitude was that I was willing to live in a trailer home because it's still Florida. I came here for the climate, sunshine, and peaceful living. When I want to go to the beach, it's just a drive away.

There Is NO excuse for any of this! It's just comes down to one word- GREED! GREED for money! They know they can get it so that's what they charge. I've lived in Florida for close to 40 years now. I have NEVER, EVER seen the GREED for money that I see in 2024. The people that do this to destroy the middle class are gross and disgusting. If anyone is offended by what I just said, guess what ? I Don't Care!

You are spot on about the 10 hour emergency room wait times. I’m a nurse and worked for NCH for 7 years and patients would come to the floor stating they had been in the ED for over 20 hours. And yes, in the off season we would always close floors until the next season and then they would frantically be hiring travel and seasonal nurses who made more than twice what staff nurses make, however they are unbenifited. It’s just how it is with the massive population change every 6 months. I’m now at Lee Health and it is so much better.

news flash: healthcare issues are worse in Chicago. Don’t think this problem only exists in FL or Chicago either. This is nation wide

The problem with moving to a place you enjoyed on vacation is that thousands of other people have the same idea and soon the area is nothing like the place you wanted to move.

I left Naples in the late 80's. Naples was becoming Miami and Naples has achieved its goal.

Healthcare concierge BS is going on in NY, but I think some doctors will be getting in trouble for it.
Booking appointments at a doctor's office and them having PAs do the work is really like a no-show job.

Wow good information!
I didn't realize it was that expensive.

I was there for vacation ( 1 week only) and that WAS enough . nice beach and a quiet place, my opinion is: it's a place were millionaires go to spend their last days watching the sunset from their beautiful beach homes. A place for the rich and that's all.
