Why plane a leading-edge onto a door before hanging - HOW TO HANG IN 2020

Every door fitted within a tradition frame will need a leading-edge planed onto the edge of the door. In this video, I explain why.

You will need a hand plane to such as a No 7 which is my favourite but a No 5 will work well too.

Thanks for the great video. I’ve been hanging doors for the last 3 years but even at the college no one mentioned this. I may have been doing it all wrong by taking too much off with a circular saw unnecessarily. Live and learn! One thing I’m not clear on, do you put the leading on the face side or the closing side let’s say where the hinges go? Thanks.

For some reason I’ve had a need to know what the leading edge on a door was all about after hearing a site agent admonishing a foreign carpenter for not putting a leading edge on a bunch of doors he had hung. Now I know. Thanks

To be honest Wally I couldn't follow that at all. I think it would be much better if you could demo it with an actual door moving in/out of a jamb rather than sitting down with a static camera. I'm a subscriber, your stuff on French hinges is really helpful. You have a really engaging screen persona, communicating great enthusiasm and experience but sometimes you rabbit on far too fast for a DIYer like me. I say this as a positive comment. Keep up the good work.
