Proud to say that I machine the gears for the LEFAS on the f-16 and many other jets 😊

A good friends neighbor was one of the first engineers (~20) to work on General Dynamics Project 401 directly out of college which became the YF-16A leading to the production F-16A. Said it was the crowning achievement of his career.

As a 10 year old my Grandad arranged for me to go to Nellis with a f16 crew chief and sit in the seat, look thru the HUD, etc. while hydraulics were up and running. It was amazing, and one of the things I remembered was the crew bitching about having to deal with greased poles and now i see why! Thanks!

F-16 will forever be my absolute favorite military aircraft, not even an F-22 or F-15E(which I also really like) come anywhere near the level of happiness it brings me when I watch F-16s at air shows or just sitting at an apron.

The joys.. I wanted to be an AF pilot but now it’s too late, most I could probably become is AF airlift or tanker pilot..

I guess A320 is enough for now hoping to be able to get type rated for A330/A350 some time in next few years.

My God, take a minute to pause this when it gets the technical diagram. The complexity is mind boggling and this is just a fraction of all the systems and subsystems

I've done many Phase overhauls and rigs on the F/A-18C LEF HDU and driveshafts, and it operates the same way. LEF Gears get chewed up from use as high speed rolling rather than relying on sensitive ailerons. Modern FCCs do an outstanding job taking care of small pilot inputs.

I had a picture of a f16 on my bedroom wall - 40 years ago !

Makes me love the F-15 even more.

Just a big simple wing with no LE devices and a massive amount of thrust.

Definitely Ed Heinemann’s influence on that.. simplicity.

It’s incredible WW2 aircraft like the BF109 had the same system.

He explained that better than the instructors in tech school 🤦🏽‍♂️

If only the explanation for the leading edge flap deflecting downwards wasn't completely wrong this could have been a reasonably good video.

As much as the F16 is considered an engineering marvel of the Airforce i still feel that the F22 is the ultimate fighter jet of all times as it is built for supersonic stealth fighting and the F16 can’t do that

Wow, looks like ASAF figured it out! John P.

I feel like this level of detail on its construction shouldn't be made public 😅
