I had the M2 iPad Pro for about a month and, even though it is the best iPad yet, I ended up returning it. Here is why

Contradicts your previous uploaded video and their titles. Seems like you have only purchased it for content views and then sent it back…

I’m a hard core ipad pro user and my M1 iPad Pro has been a god-send for working with huge Excel spreadsheets and big Word files with lots of images. But I’m not upgrading to the M2 iPad Pro just for a 15% performance bump. I’m not even tempted and feel no FOMO.

As a mechanical engineer my M1 12.9" iPad Pro could never be my single computing solution neither a MacBook Pro as all engineering design and simulation software is written and tested on PC's running Windows. I have owned every iteration of the 12.9" iPad Pro since it was launched and purchased it not only for its segment leading power but also the elongated upgrade cycle. From a technical perspective, I think Apple reached the apex of iPad Pro with the 12.9" M1 iPad Pro. The limiting factor for the iPad Pro and all iPads for that matter is iPadOS. To realize the full potential of the iPad Pro there needs to be an improvement in the OS making it closer to macOS and the availability of professional software such as DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut, Logic, X-Code and full-featured versions of the Adobe software suite. Improvements to iPadOS should include a root directory, the ability to select where imported files are stored.

A couple things. It’s been stated in Apples marketing material that they had to add a magnetic sensor in display to achieve the hover feature. If you use an iPad for 90% of your computing come iPadOS 16.2 the extended monitor support is worth upgrading for imo. The performance increase is just a bonus. Also, if you already own an M1 why the heck would you upgrade to the M2? This iPad better last me 5 years for what I paid for it.

When Fernando returns a iPad Pro, you already know something is up.

Well, I replaced my original 9.7" 256 GB iPad Pro 1st generation from 2016 with the 11" 256 GB M2 and WOW! what an improvement in performance. I' very happy with it.

Definitely, Apple still didn’t gave us a solid motive to upgrade the Pro version of the iPad. The 2018 model is still good enough for most of the tasks, even for some more demanding ones and the price this year went up significantly in many regions of world (including Europe…).

Great review. Although I am curious to know if the inclusion of Bluetooth 5.3 and improved wifi 6e receiver will offer a better wireless sidecar/universal control experience. Better yet, will it improve the audio quality when using airpods pro 2nd gen? So far I haven't found anyone that goes in detail about this, despite it's importance.

I agree with you 100%. The new M2 iPad Pro is surely the best iPad available and the most future proof. However, not worth upgrading from an M1 iPad Pro, or maybe even a pro going as far back as 2018. I think it was a bad move for Apple to make the Hover feature specific to the M2 iPad Pro. It’s a nice little touch. But not a feature that they should have kept from M1 iPad Pro users who can make good use of it and made significant investments in their device in the past year or so. I hope you’re right, but I would be pleasantly surprised if they ever backtracked and made it available on older devices. They hyped it too much in their upgrade video.

I've had my iPad Air 2020 for 2 yers now and I love how snappy and responsive it still is after 2 major IOS updates and I don't feel the need to upgrade to any Pro model. These slates are built to last a good 3 to 4 years.

Excellent video! And yeah I have the 2018 pro 11-in model and I went to the Apple store I thought okay. Maybe it's time to upgrade but besides being faster and having center stage having better back cameras which I've never used on my pro cuz I have a phone there's not really any gigantic reason to upgrade. If they made the screen better they might get me but it's almost exactly the same screen so why?

remember that there are operational reasons for going to the M2. It simplifies production and the supply chain by hastening the phase out of m1.

It's really mind-blowing that you guys in the US can return and get a refund for the gadget you bought and used. Usually in my country u can't return what u bought after 2 days since the purchased 😅

Since you asked: IF, by attaching my M1/2 iPad Pro to a keyboard and selecting 'desktop' mode, I could have a 100% MacOS experience without compromise on that same device, I would think that was the greatest thing since sliced bread! I HAVE BEEN WANTING THAT ever since I saw the first Microsoft Surface device. I have had several surface devices over the years but still I yearn for the Apple experience I just described.

My ideal iPad Pro would be a 12.9 in with a mini LED and the M2 as it is, but with one major difference. It would have to run MacOS. iPadOS really doesn’t cut it… also, get rid of the dual super high-end rear cameras and give us a 100$ price cut instead. No one uses the cameras on the iPad Pros.

Mini LED gets just as black as OLED, but there’s a noticeable glow around the segments that are on

Upgraded from the 2020 to the 16gb ram 1tb m2 iPad Pro and I’m pretty satisfied. I’m getting about 100 extra layer support at 4k x 4k resolution and hover really helps when painting. The display is brighter than the 2020 was. Overall I think it’s a good iPad 🤷‍♂️

One hardware change I'd like to see is 'landscape' front mount camera. This would help mimic the position of a normal laptop.

The only reason that would make me finally upgrade my good old iPad Pro 12.9" 2nd gen (2017) is an iPad with an even bigger screen. Moreover, I would like it to be not from the Pro line.

Upgraded from the 2017 iPad Pro and no regrets with my decision. The increased performance and upcoming pro apps is enough for me to keep it. However, not sure why an M1 iPad Pro owner would even consider the M2 version.
