The M2 iPad Pro Isn’t what I wanted…

The M2 iPad Pro is here, and while many people are upset that Apple decided to put in a faster M2 chip into here with a few features, I am not. This is a perfectly fine update, however, even though this iPad Pro has been updated, it's still not for me even after all the improvements Apple has made to iPadOS 16.1

I seriously think people don’t know what to do on a typical computer firstly, the iPad shows exactly this. I edit video(reels), music, photos and usdz. I also can ssh into any computer and type commands transfer files over server, on iPad and more. Literally everything my Mac can do. The problem is that the iPad doesn’t have the Mac workflow so for a lot of people they think it’s lacking in software, when in reality nobody is learning the software enough to fill that out. The simple fact you have to relearn something is what’s making people say this. I returned my Mac many many months ago because I know this workflow is the future. I use my m1 iPad to its whits ends. Just because some like to browse YouTube 24/7 or download a typical Mac program to feel “professional“ doesn’t make the iPad any less pro. Learn how to take advantage of the software and I guarantee you’ll feel different.

My favorite thing about stage manager is that I can use it to multi task with apps that didn’t support Split View before, or have iPhone only apps like Instagram. There’s still a lot of improvements to be made but that was huge for what I do personally.

The 11" M2 iPad Pro is exactly what I wanted. I'm upgrading from an iPad Air 2. Thanks Apple! It'll last longer while still being able to maintain a higher performance level.

I have two m1 IPad Pros I use for digital painting, and thank you for pointing out why the m2 ipad pro is not for you, but also putting full consideration into who this ipad pro might appeal to. At the same time, you're absolutely right that ipad users are generally just looking for software upgrades that make their ipads more full featured and usable. We're fed up that Apple's just phoning in with the m2 ipad pro update, but the ipad never really needed better hardware. The software just hasn't kept up. It's like we all want the mac pro, but damn it, the software ecosystem still hasn't even caught up to the m1 ultra.

I do want iPadOS to get better but this iPad got too much heat from a hardware standpoint. Yes, it’s faster (not like it was slow) but I feel the new M2 iPad Pro has got blamed for the wrong things. Why be angry at the hardware when it is the iPad software that needs to change? I’m still trying not to buy it. I got the 2020 model but that I do regret not getting Silver. It’s better.

I’m an iPad Pro guy. My iPad sits on a stand on my desk and is connected to a dock and monitor at home. I do my work with track pad, keyboard and pencil on a 32” 4K screen. When it’s time to go to the office. I unplug the cable and put it into folio case. I drive to work get into my office. On my desk is the Magic Keyboard case. I pop it in there and I get to work. I do wish it allowed either external camera support or they had moved the camera, but center stage does decent enough. Then I have a meeting and presentation. So I disconnect from the keyboard pop on folio case and head to conference room. I sit and take notes with the pencil until it’s my turn. I head in up, AirPlay my ipad to the screen (sometimes have to use an iPad usb-c hud that clips to the side for HDMI connection) and start my presentation (if I’m doing graphs or slideshow I use Apple Watch to switch slides). All done I disconnect and go back to office pop on keyboard and continue thoughout the day. I have class that night so I take the keyboard with me and drive to school. I handwrite my notes, work on a paper with a group using collaboration features. My fiancé calls me so I pop in my AirPod pros and answer her FaceTime during the class break. I tell her I’ll order a pizza and pick it up on the way home. End call class starts back up and working along. I order the pizza and finish class. Grab the pizza and head home. Have dinner with my lovely partner and we chat about day and all. After dinner I go to my chair and pick a show and AirPlay it to the tv for my fiancé. I read the news or any interesting articles why the TV shows running. We chat a little bit more. I love my parents are FaceTime in me I answer we both talk to my parents for a bit and then I return to my home office plug into monitor and fire away a few end of day emails etc. I have a scotch, disconnect iPad and sit in my home office recliner and read a few chapters of a book of Apple Books or kindle or nook. Time for bed, plug in to the dock again and head to bed.

It’s really a whatever I need computer. And I do not struggle to get things done. It works great in the corporate world, my law school, my home entertainment and my reading. I’m not sure what the rest of you are doing that you can’t use the device to do… But my very well paying corporate job runs smooth as hell off it and challenging law school doesn’t slow it down.

I travel extensively, and until the M1 MBA came out, my original iPad Pro 12.9” was my go to device. Now…the M1 MBA is the only daily device for me.

The solution that works for me is the iPad Mini 6, a Mac laptop, and a Mac desktop. Each has its own strengths and weakness depending on my needs at the moment.

I dont agree. Stage manager for ipad is genius interface design. I use macbook and i open lots of windows and windows do get lost behind each other. The philosophy behind stage manager is to avoid that situation where windows get lost behind each other which is why the limit they found was 4 windows and the window in the background keeps snapping to specific places where it remains visible. It’s necessary moreover for touch interface. Stage manager is really really good concept believe me.

I've been in love with the iPad since the iPad Air 3 and iPadOS 13, and upgraded to the M1 11" iPad Pro back when that one came out. Use it mainly for photo editing in Lightroom, note taking in class, second/third display for my MacBook Air, studying, and media consumption. Definitely don't take full advantage of the M1 though, and feel it's going to be several years/generations until it's actually worth upgrading, which I'm okay with!

I wanted to upgrade, but I really don’t Need to right now. I think some people think they need to upgrade every year for whatever reason, which I think is silly, .

Looks like a great tablet but personally I plan to keep my M1 12.9 iPad Pro for 6+ years this tablet is definitely good for anyone trying to upgrade from a 4 year old iPad or older

I tried the iPad Pro M2 and in the end I picked up the MacBook Pro. Having just one expensive but productive device won the day for me and also the sheer power and battery life and rapid charging of the MacBook Pro. I loved the iPad though, it is such an amazing device. I'd love to get both but I'm still moping about waiting for my wife to notice the MacBook Pro purchase! Fortunately, it is a business purchase, tax deductible and GST free as I have an I.T. business so maybe not totally surprising that I spend a bit sometimes. I do love that iPad though and it is something I'd like to get in the future. Great video Greg too. I always enjoy your videos. You do a great job.

I’m personally glad that they haven’t changed much about the iPads. This is a point for Apple IMO. Basically Apple are saying it’s nice to flex if you can but you won’t be penalised if you can’t. They recognise that most people can’t afford to upgrade every year and I think they’re respecting that. By leaving the hardware as it is, the iPad that you bought in 2018 and spent a fortune on doesn’t look or feel outdated in 3years. ❤ them for that

All I want on my iPad Pro 11" M1 is proper external screen support. No more black bars.

It’s very disappointing that they did not move the camera to the spot that many were asking for it to be placed. But it’s a very nice looking unit 11 and 12 inch, and I’d like to see that rumoured macOS update for the M2 iPad Pro’s. Very sleek form factor in the Magic Keyboard

I've always felt this way, about the iPhone. Like yes it's incredibly fast, but what can you do with it? I mean android devices can run loads of apps at once. Not saying it isn't a good device.

If it had the camera on the other axis, thinner to nearly no bezels with a slight screen increase whilst keeping the dimensions the same to use existing Magic Keyboard cases then I would have bought one.

I wouldn’t mind the bigger M2 iPad coming from an air4, I still love my little air4 and use the hell out of it, having seen many reviews of the pro iPad models for a couple of years, in the cold light of day, it does seem apple could have done a tad more to the hardware, a slightly bigger battery, a headphone mic jack, maybe even an extra port given the devices PRO designation ?
It’s still a cool tablet, but just not much differentiations other than making a speedy device more speedier as far as the hardware goes from the previous model.
A few more tweaks in the multitasking appears nice, but more are always appreciated.
