What didn’t air was that this Adderall part of my story is just one small part of my addiction story. I had been sober a year when my husband and daughter were prescribed it, so I was putting myself in harms way. Being an overwhelmed mom didn’t make me take those pills, my addiction made me take them. I lied to myself by saying I needed them to get stuff done, when the truth is I’m an addict and I wanted to take them. Also, I now work as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor in Minneapolis for the past 7 years. I work hard to help people deal with their shame and the stigma surrounding addiction. Addiction can happen to anyone. And it does. When people focus on the nitty gritty of what we do when we are deep into our addiction, it perpetuates that it is a moral issue. It’s not. It’s a brain disease and years of research backs that up. But there is hope!! It’s never ever too late to get help. And if you are surrounded by people who are shaming you (we already shame ourselves in that way) reach out for help. Google where there is help. Put your life on hold and get help. This isn’t your fault and you deserve to get well!!

Also edited out was the part about my kids. Yes, two of my kids are addicts. And yes, my husband and I paved the way for that. But we also showed them that we do recover!! That life gets better!! And I’m proud to say they are both clean and sober today. My younger two won’t touch any substances because they know what can happen. They are practicing prevention. They are doing great in school, and are great athletes. My oldest is in school to become a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor. Our family is doing very well in recovery and I’m so proud them!

-Back story. I started doing cocaine after my kids were born. I had worked for my father’s business, and he didn’t want to pay enough to cover daycare so he gave my husband a raise to cover my pay and sent me home to stay with my kids. I come from a upper middle class family, raised right. I was married for 13 years before I started using cocaine. After being let go from my dad’s business, I thought it would be a great idea to start bartending in the evenings to get out of the house. Got help after 1.5 years of use I realized it was too much so I went to treatment and got sober. I was sober about a year and Adderall prescribed, and I started taking it. Didn’t want to get embarrassed about lying about the prescription and still knew some people selling cocaine. They suggested meth and I did that for about 2.5 years and went back to my 12 step meetings and have been sober since. In August I’ll have 10 years. It is NEVER too late. -Peace✌🏼

As a person who is stressed a lot (23 years of driving 100 miles a day to/from work) son with ADHD, husband working out of state, months at a time, loosing my dad a year ago and my sister (age 53) 2 months ago from ovarian cancer, I get the desire to “make it go away”, but drugs/alcohol are not the answer. That is just one more thing to stress about, if it doesn’t kill you first.

Amazing that meth addiction is always caused by PTSD, some past event, or someone else... It's never caused by say, bad character and dumbass decisions.

I raised four kids on my own.. Never reached for drugs and alcohol so a little offended that single parent hood is used as an excuse.. This is an addiction story for sure

Horror of horrors?? How did I get here?
Moms becoming addicted???? To cope with the serious void in their lives! Never understood??? When a woman would say ??? I'm just a surburban mom??? Dignify that?? with a little respect?? If it's too unclear? skewed?? It doesn't count??? .... But? By God It should!
