If you don’t take care of your burn out, it becomes depression.

Thank you. Honestly I thought I was depressed...just giving those two scenarios helped me. I noticed a deep depression but whenever I took a vacation people said I was a different person.

A week? I'd expect it to be more like 2 or 3 months if the burnout is severe. This is why some careers offer sabatticals every few years.

It’s torture when you’re experiencing both at the same time 😖

Worth mentioning that burnout can't always be cured in a week, especially if you've stayed in that state for a long time.

I wished more ppl understood this! I get SO tired of ppl telling me to just get over it or snap out of it!

Thank you for this. I experienced burnout during the pandemic thinking I was depressed. It was a huge learning curve.

Being self-employed and avoiding burnout is a constant struggle.

I really thought i was depressed, I was so tired all the time and unmotivated and had so much stress, but once I figured out the root of the problem, school stress, I made arrangements to graduate early and get out of there and now I feel amazing

i flew to Vegas for three days and i was so stressed about my useless brothers feeding my cats that i couldmt relax 😂 having that person who can take away the stress for a short time makes a BIG difference. i was so exhausted when i got back lol

You can definitely have both. I just quit my toxic job after 3 and a half years due to mental health. I can feel the burnout leaving after only 2 days even though I don't have another job lined up.

Burnout and Dissociation is what I'm experiencing. Can you better explain these two?
Thank you very much!

I would be curious to learn more about how burnout happens with things that aren’t just work and school. Like autistic burn out from masking or being burnt out from being chronically ill.
A lot of people tend to label me as depressed because of my outward symptoms, I don’t think they understand how much I would love to just to “take a vacation” but I cannot take a vacation from my disability, so all I can do is rest.
I do have passions, hobbies, and deep care for many things. My disability takes up so much of my mental energy most days I don’t have the ability to care for those things. I can’t fight it, as much as I wish I could get up and do stuff, Especially helping people, and I don’t enjoy not being able to work either.
When i am doing better, people don’t understand it came from days or weeks of rest that they called “depression”. Every time I need space to reset I’m still spending energy defending myself and reassuring others that I’m in fact in therapy and in fact know what I’m doing. Frustrating.

This is how I knew I had depression. My life looked great to an outsider. I was still desperate & in free fall, on the inside.

Burnout hits me so hard sometimes that it triggers depression if I can't get a break. Or the other way around. If i force myself to do normal things while my mind is in a dark place it will build the stress and lead to burn out.

true. i've spent so much money to "stop" the sadness but unfortunately it's still there.

now im in an unfamiliar island, bloated from the food i didn't enjoy, spent so much money, and still depressed.

So it’s a toss up bc I can sometimes get better after a break and sometimes I’ll just quietly mope and I’ll never know the difference until later. Fantastic

What is it when you have to do all your work prior to taking the vacation and jane is mad about having to cover for the things that came up while you were gone? And this is the case each time you ask for time off.
