Hey there, it's Dylan Curious, Today, let's dive back into the world of CRISPR, a game-changer in scientific research. I remember being totally engrossed in Jennifer Doudna's work during the pandemic. Her Nobel Prize-winning discoveries are now leading to real-world impacts, like groundbreaking gene editing therapies for diseases like AIDS and high LDL cholesterol.

I'm particularly fascinated by how CRISPR technology, akin to DNA scissors guided by GPS, is revolutionizing not just medicine but also agriculture, climate change, and even data storage. For instance, CRISPR's potential in diagnosing diseases, like its role in COVID-19 and cancer detection, is just astounding. In agriculture, it's enabling us to develop crops that are disease-resistant and more environmentally friendly.

But let's not forget the ethical and safety considerations. Take the ongoing research on curing HIV using gene editing, specifically Excision BioTherapeutics' EBT-101. This CRISPR-based treatment aims to eradicate HIV DNA, a concept that was successfully tested in animals and is now in human trials. Similarly, in the realm of heart health, a new therapy called VERVE-101 is targeting LDL cholesterol directly at the genetic level.
Moreover, recent discoveries have uncovered new types of CRISPR systems, expanding our understanding and capabilities in genome editing. Among these is a variant that targets RNA instead of DNA, opening up even more possibilities.

As we explore these breakthroughs, it's crucial to consider the broader implications and responsibilities that come with such powerful technology. CRISPR's boundless potential in diagnostics, agriculture, environmental conservation, and data storage is both exciting and challenging.

Remember, these advancements are just the tip of the iceberg, and I'm here to keep you updated on all the latest developments. If you're as passionate about these topics as I am, hit that subscribe button and help me reach my next goal of 7,000 subscribers. Stay curious, and let's nerd up on the wonders of CRISPR and AI!

Interesting stuff, I wished for designer jeans for Christmas, now I wonder if I should go for designer genes instead?

The melting butter transition effect is a bit overdone though, it's not so bad once or twice, or with inanimate objects, but when faces get liquified my vagus nerve gets twitchy.

Bringing back some extinct animals would be cool. The nicer ones anyway. We are getting wolf populations back where I live now, which is pretty sucky. They are eating peoples livestock and pets. But bringing back things like the dodo would be super cool.

I'm halfway into it and I hope you tell the public the real story about the incredible astronomical cost of this. The hurdle is overcoming unfairness in humanity when it relates to the wealthier not wealthy that get the treatment. I pray it's equal and wealth thrown out the door so two people that are human get treated the same and have this edit take place.

I only clicked on this video because of the sick AI transition thumbnail preview. Pretty cool dude

If new research showing a positive correlation with higher LDL and greater longevity is to be believed, then I can see why the two patients might have died. Apparently athersclerosis is not just as simple as LDL bad.
