CRISPR allows scientists to perform surgery on our DNA.
For people with genetic diseases it has transformed lives with corrections that aren’t passed on to others.
But should the technology be used in ways that permanently transform the human race?

Beginning of the video: "It's cheap so it's revolutionary"
End of the video: "Only the rich will be able to afford it"

Cure disease, design engineered babies, but never bio weapons that's just too much to fathom. Because human beings are so good with self restraint.

Why people taking this a negative, I think it's a good thing to have. we can solve a lot of problems like treating disabilities, treating genetic diseases, etc, I think we should invest more in this science and take it positively.

This Along with AI will be either the beginning of Superhumans and Immortality or Ultimately the very end of Man kind.

5:28 the twins needed to consent for changes in their bodies yet no one asked me if I wanted to be circumcised.

As a biology student and someone who’s been interested in genome evolution, I look up Jennifer of UC Berkeley who’s been been on that forefront for years now. I’ve been following her ever since she did TED talk years ago. Well deserved in the Nobel prize.

It's really interesting technology. However, there's always a limitation to everything. For me, I would concern myself more with the POSITIVE effect of this technology. Treating diseases, good use for developing our fields of agriculture.

I agree that it might be incorrect to use it on unborn children in the absense of a life threatening disease. But purely in order to treat diseases such as sickle cell, vitilligo and alzheimer's, i think Crisper can take us lot closer to the results and just we seek. Only problem in using this technology in adults is targeting the exact cells we look for if i dont mistake according to what I have read. Really great if this technology can develop further to treat above mentioned diseases.

5:20 Consent? "My body my choice" - abortion rights activists. Millions of children are aborted every year (some who are partially born) with no concern by women regarding the fetuses consent to being killed. In this case a Father agrees to have risky procedures used on single cells that formed his children, and there are acedemics whining about consent? Hypocrisy knows no bounds with some people.

Amazingly covered the whole topic. Please come out with more such emerging technologies.

It does not matter if we like it or not, if the manipulation and modification of the genome is possible, it can be hindered for a certain time but no one can stop it.
And like so many other discoveries and inventions, they can be used for good or for evil. The ultimate goal of science is knowledge for its own sake. Ethical and moral considerations belong to philosophy and can change with time and culture.

Crisper is either gonna make a Utopia or dystopia.
A toss of a coin and the whole world shall hold its breath observing which side it will land on.

I don't understand the fear of so-called "designer babies". People have this odd idea that as a consequence, everyone would look the same. In reality, what's defined as beautiful is often a characteristic that is rare. Nobody would want blue eyes if everyone has blue eyes.
And in regards to other aspects which are universally seen as more beautiful, like for example a very symmetric face, straight teeth, and so on, well why wouldn't you want everyone to be beautiful? What's so horrific about a world in which everyone is good-looking, intelligent, healthy, and athletic?

Imagine If Nanotechnology is combined with CRISPR😮
We need to support both.

"Scientists say there is a very real risk that an edit could cause a mutation in the genome with side effects that we just can't predict".
Me:🤔hmmm!... how about an example 🤨
