The Arnold Press can undoubtedly serve its purpose in someone's training — especially if they enjoy the movement — but, in my opinion, there are more effective ways to press overhead. There are also better ways to train all three heads of the shoulder, which is a commonly listed benefit of this exercise.

And to reiterate my point from the video: I do not think the "rotation of the arms" brings many benefits to this movement outside of simply working around discomfort, allowing you to perform the exercise with more load/volume, and potentially generating a little momentum.

So, do I perform the Arnold Press in my training? I don't. I tend to choose movements that line up with the muscles I am trying to target (in this case, my front delts), allowing me to work in a movement pattern that doesn't bring me joint pain or discomfort.

And this should go without saying: I am not expressing Arnold himself is x,y, or z. This has nothing to do with Arnold; This has to do with an exercise.

And ultimately, this has to do with the many bold claims being made about a movement that doesn't live up to the hype (again, in my opinion).

But hey, if you like the movement, do it — no skin off my back.

I personally like the regular seated db press. It allows me to go heavier

1. If you have good healthy shoulders, don’t waste your time and just do the traditional SP.
2. If you (like me) have suffered from front delt impingement, rotator cuff tears, or pain, the Arnold Press is a great workaround and an excellent option.

Most PT's recommend the arnold press because it is easier on your labrum and it will be more forgiving on your shoulders in the long run. You won't end up having senator McCain shoulders when you get into your senior years.

Interesting perspective on the Arnold Press. I used to do it regularly but switched to other overhead movements after feeling some joint discomfort. Definitely agree that finding what works best for your body is key.

It’s a compound movement, good for stability and getting full ROM but not for growth. Isolating the 3 shoulder muscles separately is much more effective for growth as you can go much heavier before fatigue.

Arnold presses are awesome. Definitely can't use as much weight but alternating variations every few weeks is great :-) Also fantastic movement for keeping mobility

I’ve plateaued with regular shoulder presses and am being recommended to work in Arnold press to hit all 3 deltoids.

my workout is going good, i just started taking creatine and finally hit 10kg plates on bench! (i know it's not a lot but im a woman and this is a big milestone for me)

If you don’t like the Arnold press you do them wrong or are ego lifting. 99% of the people on YouTube trying to show you how to do them, do them wrong as well.
