Do Not try to charge a LiPo Battery like this!

First I tried Disassembling the battery to learn about it. Then I tried shocking the battery with a tesla coil. Surprisingly that did not work, so I connected it to a car battery to overcharge it and it worked great. Of course, by working great i mean it caught on fire. Finally I incinerated the battery with a 30W infrared laser in a fishtank filled with 100% pure oxygen.

Every episode you post just further proves that my Elementary School teachers were wrong when they told me that "Mad Scientist" was not a viable career path.

About 40 years ago I worked in a Navy R&D facility that started using some of the very earliest prototype lithium batteries which were made by GTE. I don't remember the exact chemistry but it was a double D size that was 3.6V/10Ahr. Massive capacity for the day. Turned out that GTE never tested the proto batteries for what happens if they got shorted. Since we were going to be putting the batteries in things that would be in salt water, we did. They EXPLODED with a force equivalent to 1/3 stick of dynamite. GTE later solved that minor testing oversight. I believe they put a compound into the mix which impedes the rate of discharge so they won't explode. I believe that's true for most (all?) lithium batteries. Now they can just overheat and catch fire.

I love it how you explain how dangerous the laser is, then point it towards a road

Haha this was great. We've poked holes and over-charged a 6s 6200mAH -- nice fireball from that!

I love how he casually owns all this stuff that could start a revolution, laser cannons, flamethrowers, you name it

Well, now I know to make sure not to incinerate my LiPo battery with a 30w fiber laser in a pure oxygen environment.

I've opened a few lithium batteries recently, after one managed to be punctured inside the laptop and literally melted half of it nearly setting the house on fire I've found them fascinating. I have high school level knowledge of biology and chemistry but I never understood why a punctured lion battery had a very aromatic, sweet smell when disturbed, until you mentioned the organic solvent contained within.

My chemistry teacher showed the video of you putting molten salt in water to my class and everyone loved it.

@ TheBackyardScientist I’d recommend mounting a normal green laser on the big laser o death thing to help aim it.
