This is the Sirui Venus 35mm 1.6x anamorphic lens. It might be the most cinematic camera lens I've ever used! Today we're reviewing some photo and video footage shot on this camera lens and sharing my thoughts on who I think this lens is for!

Does anyone know if that rumor is true? I added a source I referenced in the description, but I couldn't find any definitive answer about the movie theatre thing!

Imagine those so called “influencers” suddenly start shooting tiktoks & reels on anamorphic lenses in the name of “trend” 💀

Anamorphic optics were actually developed during WWI for tanks so they could have a wider field of view through their periscopes. And then wasn't used in main stream big films until the 50s. Fox made a version of the anamorphic format and called it Cinemascope!

Pincushion distortion (or inward bowing as you call it here) is a trait of the sirui lens (and most chinese made scopes) and NOT specific to any anamorphic as you incorrectly mention. Most anamorphic lenses have a distinct and wanted barrel distortion. The sirui optics do not have this classic anamorphic barrel distortion.

Diopters will help you with minimum focus distance so you can get blurry backgrounds. Pick up a cheap set, but also get an achromatic .3 one as well. I just got the 35mm sirui Saturn and it helps when you wanna get close.

Anamorphic lens was called Hypergonar and was invented by Herni Chrétien after he saw the experiment by Abel Gance using 3 projectors. He wanted to do more or less the same thing but using only one projector. The original experiment was done for artistical reasons.

I shoot mostly photos with my Sirui Saturm 35mm (the small form factor one) and absolutely love it, sure you can only shoot in landscape and lightroom still doesn't have a desqueeze tool (which is absolutely insane when you think of it) but I don't feel like your other points are much of a hassle.
When it comes to minimal focus distance the 58mm vivitar diopter set is under 35$ and does the job (you do lose infinite focus but if you're shooting close who really cares). Considering how sharp or "too sharp" the lens is, using losing some IQ using one doesn't bother me much.
You'll in my experience get used to the squeeze in the viewfinder real fast (I do now use a phone as a monitor but that's mostly because I'm legally blind). I actually do like that the flares are subtile and more controllable.
One thing I'll correct about your points is about IBIS, there is a camera system that does support anamorphic IBIS and it's panasonic.

I believe the animorphic lens was actually invented for tanks. War tanks. So that the tank driver could have a wider field of view. And then this was applied to film coincidentally

12:30 - You're wrong, with Lumix S5 or basically any other camera that has "Anamorphic stabilisation" mode you can easily shoot without any "wobbling" in the corners.
