Fishing a wire through the wall using magnets

I had to fish a wire from a switch to the attic. I used magnets to snag a piece of iron on the end of a string, then pulled that through, then used the string to pull the romex wire through. I also used magnets to work out the alignment into the attic.

Very clever. I knew a guy that was an electrician and to run wires on a drop ceiling in a big industrial building he got a remote controlled tank. It seemed like a crazy idea but it worked. Otherwise he'd have had to do a lot of ladder work and moving tiles.

Always so interesting to observe the differences between your and our European installations. Here in Finland everything you use for installations is made of plastic so it can’t become ”live”.
I’ve used all kinds of contraptions to get wires guided inside dry walls but never used magnets and compass. Love the idea!
