5.1.4, so I can hear Mr. X's footsteps surround me whenever I play Resident Evil 2 remake lol

I agree. If your surrounds are placed properly you get a very good phantom image of rears and side surrounds. I ran 5.2.4 for a long time and movement is much better in the heights. I’d take it all day.

7.1 is still mixed for more frequently than atmos. DTS-X is also 7.1. So that's where I'd start before adding any height channels.

5.2.4 all day. Most would be very satisfied with this set-up. If you have the funds, rocking a 5.4.4 would be sick; bass heads unite!

Interesting comments I read. Have a 5.2.2. Height place middle wich yamaha receiver allow you to chose back/middle/front. Plus in my case I 4 speakers in the part of celling, their kind of place uneven. Work great that way. Did wonder if would gain anything by a 5.2.4. Have small living room 7.4 by 14 feet.

Hi Ealan, I've watched several of you videos and thank you! I'm still left with a question about my setup I'm hoping you can help with. I have a legacy surround system where the incorporate a 5.1.2 easily with the, 2 coming from upward facing speakers on a soundbar BUT my rears in the "5" ear level is best placed in the upper corners to the side of my couch and about 1.5ft rearwards. Would placing rear ear level surrounds up high like that be detrimental?

There's really no easy way to place them at ear level because the wires would be a trip hazard among other things too.

I want to do 5.1.4 but my couch is 1 foot from my back wall and can't be moved forward. I might do 5.1.2 instead but it's a bit of a waste of a 9 channel receiver.
