2004: "I will not die a monster"
2021: "Hello Peter"

It's like Kristen Dunst's audition went like
"Scream"

"The role is yours"

His last words though, “I will not die a monster!”

Made it even more wholesome now to rewatch the reunion between him and Tobey in NWH, for some reasons. ❤️

The brilliant but lazy line is incredibly well acted. It hit Otto that Peter was never lazy. He was just too busy being Spiderman

This Doc Ock is still one of the best written & acted villains in cinema.

I remember around the time this movie came out, someone interviewing Alfred Molina asked how he'd feel if, after his whole career, he was best known for playing a comic book villain. His response was something like, "I should be so lucky!"

Doc Ocks last words still give me chills when I hear them…
“I will not die a monster.”

4:56 Really like this part of the scene, it really quickly and effectively demonstrates just how insidious his robotic limbs are. Even as they have completely lost their grip on Octavius' mind, they're still so reluctant to comply with him and shocked by his demands to them until it becomes completely clear that they can't regain their control over him. And then a few moments later, Octavius finally exerts his own control over his own arms, gripping Peter again, but no longer with the malicious manifest of old, instead as an extension of Octavius himself this time.

5:50 the fact these 2 met 17 years later, and Tobey thought he was completely dead, the emotion they must’ve felt inside of them must’ve been enormous

3:35 non-threatening smiles from villains honestly is the best thing

The coolest part of this scene that often gets overlooked is the scene where Doc Ock takes control of his destiny, says "I'll do it", and rises on his arms to stand above Spiderman in a camera angle usually used for heroes. Then walks off to do what is needed for the greater good.

One difference I loved between this scene and No Way Home is the way the two Peters approach Ock. Tom's Peter repairs the inhibitor chip with his knowledge of advanced machinery and access to high tech Stark equipment. Tobey's Peter can't do that, at least not in the moment -but, unlike Tom, he's able to appeal to Ock and get him to see reason. He reminds Ock of what's most important to him. Not his work, or his ego. His principles and his wife.

Tom had the smarts, but Tobey had the heart.

I liked how Peter went from being Doc Ock's learner to becoming his teacher by the end of the movie. Peter teaches Doc Ock about sacrificing your own dreams for the greater good and that he was using his intelligence for the wrong reasons and seeing Doc Ock deciding to listen his learner was powerful and seeing him use his intelligence to save people and sacrifice the very thing he was passionate about was a great character arc for him.

“I will not die a monster.”
You didn’t. You went out a hero in the end.

I like the subtle development MJ goes through in the trilogy. She goes from being scared to climb down the cable in 1, to trying to fight Ock in 2, to being really involved in the final fight in 3. Even though I do like the MCU's MJ and Gwen Stacey better overall, I have to give credit where credit is due.

5:07 I love the detail that if you look at the "eyes" of the arms, you can see them flicker from before the inhibitor chip was destroyed, to after, which means otto is using his willpower the way the chip would have been used
