For those of you who don't know, this is egg coffee - a specialty coffee of Hanoi, Vietnam in the late 1940s when milk was scarce so people replaced it with egg yolks... And this drink is really is incredibly delicious 😋

In Italy too... My grandmother used to take her coffee with egg yolks and sugar (we call it zabaione) and it's SO GOOD. It's the base of tiramisù...

Uuuh, in Italy we have something similar, we call it "zabaione" that is a whipped yolk cream with (lots of) sugar.
Most of the times it is mixed (or sided) with coffee and sometimes a splash of spirit (like rum) is added to make it stronger.
Nowadays it's not something you can find easily, but in the past was very popular, especially in the countryside where people had their own hens and eggs.
Love your videos! Hugs from Italy! ❤ 🫂

In Indonesia, we also have egg coffee, but with a different presentation. First, we mix duck eggs with sugar, and after it expands, we pour boiling coffee over it and add a little sweetened condensed milk. However, we more often use tea than coffee. I didn't expect Vietnam and Indonesia to have similarity

I used to live next to a shop owned by a Vietnamese family that served egg coffee. It's honestly one of the best drinks I've ever had in my life, it's like a rich, liquid french toast.

In Poland we eat egg yolk beaten with sugar as a sweet snack. This is the taste of everyone's childhood (especially the ones who grew up on country side) It's called kogel mogel and I went crazy after I heard about vietnamese cofee

My Chinese grand father made coffee using egg shells. In a pot of boiling water, add 1 scoop of coffee grounds for every cup of water. Boil then while boiling add egg shells, turn off heat and gently stir for 1 minute. Let it sit 4 min. It produces very strong coffee but nit bitter. The calcium in the shells neutralizes the acids in coffee. With light cream and sugar it is the very best way to make coffee. Strong sweet and smooth. I still make it if I have egg shells .

Uyen's crocheted vest is as adorable as she is! It reminds me of those Simplicity knitting patterns from the late Seventies and early Eighties and I'm willing to bet she made it herself!

Unless you are in the USA, raw eggs are generally considered safe to consume in most parts of the world. In the US, eggs are washed, removing their protective cuticle and making them more prone to salmonella, so they must be refrigerated at 45˚F. In Europe and most parts of the world, eggs retain their cuticle, are marked "best before" 28 days after being laid, and don't require refrigeration due to quick delivery and practices like vaccinating chickens against salmonella.

Oooh, interesting! An Austrian coffee speciality you can get at some of the more traditional coffeehouses is golden coffee where egg yolk is stirred into the coffee. I'll try this for sure!
