What needs to happen is that companies need to have clear goals, KPI’s, and metrics in place. I have worked for companies where the only performance metric was the number of hours spent in the office chair. Setting good, meaningful goals is hard, but it will help tremendously in determining if a role can be 100% remote.

I have been remote for the past 7 years & it's blended into my life in such a positive way that I have no incentive to go back into the office.

At my company, we have to go to the office 4 times a year. Otherwise, you can be completely remote. A manager will visit the office once every two weeks. The rest of us can come as we see fit. It’s a nice arrangement. Helps that it’s an airline, so you can visit the office for cheap.

But with me i joined my first job in my life in lockdown i was working from home completely for 2 years, recently started visiting office. What i have realized is me being a passionate engineer i think my mind would grow even more when i work with team interact with them in person share experiences learn things, observing things at office and imagining how they work at background and the toughts of make it more better is how you growing as a engineer and sharing experiences with people is how you can grow as a person and a leader..

So true, Simon. The working world that existed before COVID is over. Gone. The sooner everyone accepts that and realises that no one will ever go back to an office full time, the quicker we can discuss what the future will be. For sure flexibility meaning, for me, allowing people some time to work where they want, when they want. Some companies already do this but it's not widespread. Trust and psychological safety will also play a big part in any kind of agreement that's reached.

This video is 💯🎯 and I believe you hit the nail right on the head Simon. We are all swimming in unchartered waters and everyone is looking to one another for an answer in which the predominant response is just kind of everyone throwing their hands up in the air saying I don't know.🤷‍♀️🤷‍♂️

On the one hand corporate America saw during the pandemic that the corporate world could pretty much fully function from home, their employees could have a life of their own and still be productive. Employers began to learn that they could save a ton of overhead, get more hours out their employees because they didn't have to commute and they didn't have people taking days off or calling out sick because everyone was home.

On the other hand the pandemic ends and now businesses that corporate America previously financially sustained started going under and people began to panic. Restaurants, day cares, clothing stores, nail and hair salons, gas stations, public transportation, realtors developers, health care providers, ect all began to take a financial hit or went under, because when people work from home they don't need to buy or do those things; which saved them a lot of money in the long run.

As a result, corporate America gets pressured from lobbyists and the government to start calling their employees back into the office, which is understandably met with a lot of resistance for those employees who completely adjusted their lives based on the representation that they would remain fully remote.

As a result of the uncertainty companies, upper management and employees are really just currently operating with a trial and error mentality and a wait and see mindset and approach.

The good news for employees though is that it gives them a lot of leverage when it comes to setting boundaries, asking for flexibility, finding a healthy life and work balance and asking for more money. If their needs are not met the ball really in their court to say thanks, but no thanks and decide to take their time and talents elsewhere.💛 Great clip Simon it will be interesting to see what begins to happen now that so many have awakened to the truths that so many others tried to hide and run from for so long.👌

I am seeing more and more companies bringing staff back to the office. Maybe young companies with young dynamic CEO’s will be more flexible but old corporates with entrenched old ways will not accept the new dynamic

I work at a research lab. Since the pandemic we always have a digital meeting room on, just in case someone wants to connect remotely, and that is acceptable. The obvious exception is a very small meeting (2-3 people), where everyone is already present.

Interesting. I'm pleased in my house in Mexico working for a California-based company. Of course I have been lucky to find a remote position since the beginning.

We are already at the point of "I'm working from home today". Got a text from one member of my team that said that this morning, and another warned me of their plans to work from home tomorrow.

I have worked a remote job for many years. It works beautifully. My company saves a lot of money. They have been able to flatten the management structure. Middle managers are not needed when employees work remotely. Much more work gets done because nobody has to go to useless meetings that middle management has to conduct so they look like they are doing something.

Broadly speaking, I believe we are just trying to find balance. Businesses tend to be concentrated in urban areas with obscene expenses and unimaginable commute times. I don’t believe that it is in the company’s best interest to go fully remote, but hybrid work is a fringe benefit that to me truly feels like an olive branch. I think most Americans want to work hard and be loyal; however, we also want to enjoy life and be able to afford our creature comforts. Balance, “all things in moderation” 😁

The problem with this is only office jobs are counted as "real" jobs. The picker at the warehouse or the clerk helping your daughter pick out the perfect Prom dress don't count as workers. Many of those manufacturing jobs are done by other people overseas. They don't work from home. The value of work for ALL jobs needs to be examined.

Flexibilty ALWAYS means that i will lack stability because i work at the whim of my employer. Flexibility serves the interests of the business, not the interests of the employee.
