Push to improve metrics, and the metrics will improve for a while. Teach a philosophy of a job well done, and the metrics will improve forever

Simon Sinek challenges the traditional metrics of success in both the business world and the education system. Discover why test scores and financial measures, while important, fail to capture the essence of true leadership and interpersonal skills.

Simon advocates for a more holistic approach to measuring success, emphasizing the importance of cooperation, camaraderie, and the ability to uplift others.

Excellent video. Also, I suggest letting children study at least two subjects that they like at an early stage and at an advanced pace. This would make school interesting to them. My grades in high school were poor and I dropped out halfway through my senior year but I have a double major in finance and economics with high honors(magna cum laude). I hated history in high school but now I love it due to being a student of the Bible. I'm studying for my Master's in Pastoral Theology now.

Bless you for your kind heart.
Why do we not have more who think this way?! Just imagine what kind of world we'd live in if more of us lived and promoted this type of thinking...

Everything is measurable. While some things are harder than others to measure, we need to be doing this to help our kids achieve.

Very good point!! 💯 I have been stressing this for a while. Evaluation methods and metrics need to evolve.

Quantitative data only gives you a snapshot of where things are during a certain point in time. Qualitative data provides the best information of where you're lacking and what you need to do to improve

I do enjoy Simon's work, but currently we have a problem with understanding the "current" metrics and measurements. At my daughter's school the teacher does a weekly report on "behavior" it is a very basic 3-point scale in addition to all of the other metrics, adding an additional layer of metrics "sounds" great but implementation would require a sacrifice in another area.

It is not good enough that I should succeed. Others must fail!

There was an opportunity to go to Finland for 2 weeks in high school and I applied! There was a small test to see which person goes and nobody knew, so equal playing ground I guess. It was multiple choice about finland, I thought I failed and went on. Felt Bad I wasnt selected, but eh, I gave it a shot. Then a teacher comes to me and said, sorry you are not going to finland, you had the highest score, but the others had higher grades in class...

This still hurts me, as the people that went, were a happy go lucky girl from a rich family (who wanted to go shopping), a nerdy guy (deserved, but he was unsure if he even wanted to go) and 2 other people. They didnt appreciate it at all and I was fucking pissed

The competencies needing to find ways to assess; critical thinking, problem solving, cooperation, cross cultural empathy. In many developing countries examination systems are knowledge centered which then results in teaching methods focusing on acquiring knowledge instead of the application of knowledge. Examination/assessment methods need to change on countries where their systems are knowledge driven. Couple this examination system of application of knowledge with the assessment of the competencies listed above then we will be preparing students for the economy/ businesses of the future.

If everyone gets an A, what happens to your bell curve of performance measurement where leaders are forced to rate people as underperforming

The reason why I was a straight A student growing up was mainly peer pressure and cultural differences. Many parents in the country where I grew up often pointed the tiny negatives instead of all other achievements. That thinking puts pressure on students to excel and nothing but excellence. Now when I think about it I wish I was a C student and wouldn’t care what the outsiders thought. Do you know why Jews excel? This is not a myth because they only focus on that tiny little thing you did right . I think our teachers needed some education they would put their swat and tears to see each one of us succeed but sometimes the most relaxed kid in classroom achieves the greatest achievement in their lifetime. So when I grew up I am going to be C or C- student. 😂
