PS5 Pro continues to impress critics and fans alike as the day it hits the public approaches. I've called the PlayStation 5 Pro underestimated, market disruptive, and a Mid Gen Leap. Now I want to talk about the PSSR effect. It's here. We're seeing it in action, and it will only get more impactful.

Not only is this future proofing for PS6 but putting out PSSR now devs can get used to working with it and Sony can update the PSSR making it more efficient. Gonna be interesting to see how it plays out compared to DLSS since PSSR is console only.

That’s impressive for PSSR cause as far we know this this is the 1.0 version of this technology and it’s already on par with the 3.0 versions of its competitors

Been playing non PS5 Pro patched games(Metaphor, P3R) on my Pro and not only do they run at a full stable 60 FPS, resolution is locked in at 4K and they both look fantastic. Despite not having optimization patches, the extra boost in processing power has a noticeable and positive effect on possibly all games. Make sure you force your PS5 Pro in to outputting a 4K image in the display settings.

Of course PSSR is better than FSR. FSR is software. While it does a good job, it will always be limited compared to hardware upscaling tech like DLSS and PSSR

I would buy it 100% if it had FPS Boost like Xbox. Even if it was only a smaller selection of games, there are a lot of games that I struggle to play because of 30fps.

The importance of the extra silicon for machine learning is rather simple to explain: if the 7700xt has 28 billion transistors, a non RT game it uses 7 for upscaling, 15 for raster and the rest for cache and communication, with PSSR they add another 10 billion transistor, much more efficient in upscaling(maybe frame gen) while freeing up those 7 that now can go back doing what they do best, raster. In this scenario the improvement in raster is not only 45%, all the games that previously ran with FSR will do a nice *2 in raster power.

Back when DLLS 1.0 was released by Nvidia and everyone was critical of its shortcomings, I was blown away and knew it was going to be the future of console gaming.

I agree, the most essential feature is the PiSSeR output, or PiSSing out 4K. You can see the Pro is doing this all over the place in a steady, powerful, and growing stream of over 90 games now.

PSSR should be a huge wake up call to AMD. Sony have leapfrogged FSR 3 with PSSR delivering DLSS like performance in the first implementation. As an AMD gpu owner it's actually pretty disappointing to see. Great for Pro owners though and i'll be picking one up.
