Thank you so much for this information! My mom had a TIA 14 years ago and last year had a stroke. We live in different states, and one morning my 10-yr-old was texting her to see how her day was going. The texts coming back from my mom were very strange. My 10-yr-old came to me, very concerned, showed me her iPod and the string of texts, and I immediately called my dad to let him know what was going on. He had been out running errands. Sure enough, my mom was having a stroke. Thank God for the intuition of a 10-yr-old texting her grandma (and a grandma who likes to text back!). She's doing VERY well now, but these tips are really great to have!
Just thought I'd share another symptom of a stroke--definitely a 21st century, high-tech version of a symptom, but it was a life saver!

Thanks for the great info. I am a caregiver for someone who has TIAs often. The main symptoms he exhibits are dizziness, loss of balance, and confusion. Sometimes he appears to be daydreaming or in a trance before these symptoms occur. It can be scary, but being informed helps. Thanks again.

last december i had just sat down to bake christmas cookies with my granddaughter and my whole body became super heavy like i was wearing a full body metal diving suit and 5 mins later i was paralyzed both arms and legs. my speech, balance was fine at first, went to Baylor Neuro ICU in Dallas; i had suffered a stroke from a tiny bleed on my brain. Please let ppl know you CAN have a stroke affecting both arms and legs. i also found out i had 2 previous bleeds; first one was tunnel vision and upper body paralysis, only lasting a few moments, the 2nd was only memory loss, my speech, balance was fine and no paralysis. As an EMT trained in Baltimore i thought i "knew" a stroke, none of what i exhibited on the 3 occasions were what i/we were/are being taught for strokes. i never had any of the FAST signs. i had my daughter drive bcuz the ambulance is 20 mins away (lights and sirens)and it took her 5 mins to get to the ER...time was of the essence.

Too much emphasis is put on the FAST and/or BE FAST acronym. I had a stroke a year ago and I had absolutely no piece of either acronym. Your talk about the 5 symptoms before going into the acronyms would have been way more valuable to me if I would have understood them as possible stroke signs.

what if I had a stroke cause by an accident that formed a blood clot that went to my brain. What's the chances of having another one
