I have one more important piece of advice when dealing with these people. Never tell them your personal business or your fears, or anything you dont want people to know as they will most definitely use it against you to control you and possibly blackmail you with and get inside your head, making you feel guilty etc, turning other people against you.
I find the best way is to just keep certain things to yourself and don't trust anyone fully.
