FILM DESCRIPTION:
Troy Maxson (Denzel Washington) makes his living as a sanitation worker in 1950s Pittsburgh. Maxson once dreamed of becoming a professional baseball player, but was deemed too old when the major leagues began admitting black athletes. Bitter over his missed opportunity, Troy creates further tension in his family when he squashes his son's (Jovan Adepo) chance to meet a college football recruiter.

The way Rose is dutiful and reserved.
The way Troy is bombastic and performative.

The Devil moves through Troy, he looks loaded. Like the old expression for being Drunk.
He seems dangerous, the way he looks and sounds.
Too big for the delicate world.

He is revealed all throughout to be a disloyal man who projects his inadequacies onto his sons, and depends completely on his wife for the fortitude of charterer.
He is a very real portrayal of a man wrestling with his native force of masculinity within the confinements of an ever enshadowed place of age and regret.

The fact his brother is disabled and his sons are lesser men is indicative to the focus of service toward oneself rather than service to God.
Troy has achieved his family and house by being self-centered and loses them the same way.

This is a very REAL portrayal of man in modern times.

The same thing that floats your boat can cap size it.

Drink and charm, the devil in the details. And finally hurting the ones you love.
All inside the common day.
