Narcissists are in a constant state of comparison. It doesn’t matter if they have a shiny new Mercedes, if someone else pulls up in a Lamborghini, their sense of self will quake.

Their jealousy is superficial and shallow and they have illusions of everyone being envious of them all the time.

The narcissist is usually jealous of superficial things- having nice clothes, going to nice restaurants, inviting friends over etc. They live for an Instagram lifestyle- to show off.

The “jealousy” that narcissist appear to display is actually covetousness, which means they want it and they don’t want you to have it. Therefore, the narcissist hopes to feel superior to you, since at its core the narcissist is deeply insecure.

In my opinion... Rather than a narcissist being envious of another person's capacity for love and empathy, I think it's more so that a narcissist is envious of the way that the person with the love and empathy is loved by others-- they don't understand the reason for it, bc they see empathy as weakness... They themselves want that preferential treatment, and they don't realize that they don't get it bc of their *lack* of love and empathy.

What they are jealous of is any attention given to you rather than them.

They have a stunted mental growth. They think that if you achieve something it must mean it takes something away from them. I think of them like toddlers.

Narcs always try to one up on you.
In my case..the narc talks crap about the brand of my car, coffee maker and pet dog's breed.
Lo and behold... within the next few months, narc leases a higher model of my car, buys the fancier version coffee maker and was planning to adopt a dog... that looked exactly like mine...same color, different mixed breed...

They think by imitating what makes you happy...they will be seen as happy. But sadly, it's all false.

In my experience with all the narcs surrounding me, yes, they are jealous and also threatened by others! The constant gaslighting and sarcasm is an expression of that unvontrolled jealousy they feel.

Yes. They see someone, something as a threat to their false self.

It's more than jealous. They think the person is intentionally doing what they're doing just to out do the narcissist.

The narcs in my life would never be jealous of my empathy, connectedness, and vulnerability and ability to love because they considered those things as weaknesses. They were VERY jealous of anything and everything I accomplished or possessed.
