To say that Angelica's parents are in denial on how spoiled and bratty she is I think is an understatement. And what's worse, they seem to have...selective memory about it. While she's being bratty, they react accordingly, but other times, when she asks if she's good, they tell her she's good. That, I think, sends a false message to Angelica, and reinforces her bad behavior, making her believe that what she does isn't wrong.

As an adult myself now, I realize something I didn’t realize when watching these as a kid, which is that the scenes with the adults were clearly designed not for the children viewers, but for the parents who were watching with their kids. It’s the sort of humor that isn’t inappropriate for kids, but it’s still not the sort of thing kids would understand, but adults would.

Imo the most savage/satisfying moments in Rugrats is in the episode "Superhero Chuckie" where angelica took Chuckie's toy globe ball from him and his friends turned him into a pretend superhero to get his toy back and that evil little brat kept teasing him til Chuckie shoved her so hard she stepped on a toy firetruck with wheels and fell into a wall with the ball hitting her on the head and she ran away crying. Served her right.

The first 3 seasons were the best since they had adult humor peppered throughout. At some point (after the mother's day episode) the writing completely changed. It was more kid friendly...I mean, way more. The at times demented quirkiness was gone, too. That's why people remember the first three seasons the best.
