Any ideas why Iam getting spots on my stock that are much darker that the rest? Iam using the walnut stain full strength and put on 3coats but can not get it all the same color .

Are you brushing it or how are you applying it. If you are brushing it you may be holdig the brush in one spot too long or putting it on thicker in that area. Otherwise it could be something in the wood or not enough sanding to remove the old finish.

I have my stock, , sanded, stained and starting with the true oil. I have a issue though. I see the grain is raised or lifted. Maybe I didnt sand it fine enough. IDK? But im on coat #5 and it just starting to fill in.
I am not sanding in between coats, , not sure if I should. I am roughing it with steel wool.
I am not sure if this true oil will ever make this stock smooth. If I rubbed a cotton ball across the stock, , it would hang up on the wood grain.

Apply with finger tips? That seems a little cheap, don't you think?
