Taking accountability has had a profound impact on my life

My mindset is "yeah, I've made some horrid mistakes, and I know I can't undo them, but let's see what we can achieve despite those mistakes"

There is no making things right, only better than they were

One of the best phrases I've heard: "the past is unchangeble, but the future is buildable".

Yes, you can never change your mistakes, but that also goes for the good you do.

No one can ever take away the good you say/do. So the more you do it, the more you solidify your life in good.

I also think there’s the opposite side of it where you also need to make sure you’re not afraid to make mistakes because then you’ll make even more and never learn from them.

Yes thank you so much for this.. I have made 1 really bad decision in my life and I cannot take it back, the only way I've found to make it right is by living more intentionally and with precision, not perfection, but understanding the weight of my words and actions combined with the weight of the reality that you can't take anything back, has encouraged and inspired me to live in a healthier way. I dont make good decisions when I drink, so i don't drink anymore, it's as simple as that. I dont have to crucify myself over the past, I just need remind myself of the urgency to live in such a way that considers myself and others in all that I do and do this to the best of my ability.

Nothing is good or bad. Mistakes are what makes us learn. Fear is the deepest mistake, deeper than reason itself.

Another point of view that speaks more to me is: "You can learn from past regrets and mistakes what's important to you, ask yourself what you'd regret in five years if you didn't do it now and simply do it now. You can actively work towards a life with less regrets

I come from a family where no one ever talks. So once a year someone loses their mind and cusses everyone else out. It’s always explosive. I believe it would be better to truly say what you mean and work it out with people than bottle it up out of fear of hurting someone 🤷‍♀️ you can regret things it’s part of being alive but if you don’t mean it shut your face. Be open to working things out

This is exactly what I’ve been telling my girlfriend. The worst thing you can do as a person that’s done bad things, especially to people, is have the audacity to still be unhappy. Fix yourself and make it not in vain. Make it worth SOMETHING, a lesson learned most paramount or a deeper understanding of yourself.

Just losing my mother this week has taught me this in the most real way.😢

I like the lesson I learned from reading Kierkegaard. Essentially, you will regret every decision you ever make. Therefore, it's not wise to try to never make mistakes you'll regret (though of course, some decisions are clearly better than others), but rather to learn how to cope with your regrets, as you will never be able to kill them.

You can't change the past, but you can change how you react in the future. I learned this lesson the hard way, but silence and time are my best allies now and forever.

My mindset is: The past happened, so no point looking back, or I'll trup going forward. I focus on consciously and deliberately mapping how I will optimize my experiences in the future that will lead to positive states of mind e.g. vacations, hobbies, relationships etc.

You'll also never be able to redo this moment. The way you live this day will forever be how you lived this day.
But imagine you were kind to someone today - no-one will ever be able to undo that, too.

i grew up in a family that would have explosive fights and then make up and forgive with a few hours or the next day after some sleep. this taught me some bad habits about communication. i said a couple rude things to my ex during fights and that made him grow distant, distrustful, and in the end, he left me. I don't think I did that much, but he definitely had his own sensitivity issues (as did I). But something that been hard for me during the grieving is wishing I could take everything back. Wishing that I didnt say certain things. Wishing he would have forgiven me. Its something that loads a lot of guilt and shame and pain onto me. I am sorry.

Everytime guilt of failure is back you must self-forgive again, only more than last time. Until your success overgrows all what you lost the self-reproach is like a boomerang revolving in periods. Therefore always remember whats once gone is gone forever.

There was a scene in that one new God of War game where Kratos is sailing a boat with a woman (Freya i think?) and she is telling him "you are not your past, you are not your mistakes". That really stuck with me in the last year or two
