Jon Gabriel is the undisputed king of stuff. He knows everything -- just ask him -- but is hungry to learn more. Jon chats with comedians, musicians, politicians, authors, professors, and anyone else he can lure into his soundproofed bunker.

In this episode, the King of Stuff talks with professional artist, writer, and icon carver Jonathan Pageau. Jonathan explores the symbolic structures that underlie our experience of the world through his popular YouTube channel and podcast, titled The Symbolic World. We chat about his long friendship with Jordan Peterson, the failure of the angry "New Atheists," Orthodoxy, and the renewed search for meaning and structure in our culture.

You can see Jonathan’s art on his carving website, his Patreon Art page, or you can follow him on social media. His most recent viral hit was his conversation about faith with Jordan Peterson (1.5 million views and counting).

"It seems like the edgy artist would want to restore some sort of traditionalism, so at least they'd have something to rebel against"

the edgy artist _is_ restoring traditionalism, because that is the purest rebellion against our progressive regime. The "rebellious" artists you see these days who all have trouble with their step dads and rage against the patriarchy are actually the ones adhering to longstanding tradition at this point --- their heroes lived and died decades ago. And these so called rebels are the ones celebrated by our highest institutions. What kind of rebel are you if the New York Times and Harvard are singing your praises?

We're in an inversion.
