When listening I find it helps to take notes. It forces me to process the information, slows my knee jerk response and shows I am actually listening. It also gives me something to refer back to to avoid inconsistencies and mistakes.

The weird thing is that buying and selling is deeply pyschological and our brains are inherently wired to hear hesitation, body language, and desperation when negotiating. Con artists often are great salesman because they know how to charismatically tap into emotional triggers, earn confidence, and close the sale.
So Listening is a huge a part of the process of adapting your pitch to meet the interests of your target client.
