I have seen a couple friends go off blood thinners before an operation only to have a stroke before they even left the hospital. One friend had hip replacement surgery and six or so years later had heart surgery. He went off blood thinners for both operations and had a stroke both times, the last event was just a year ago. Going off blood thinners is no joke for sure. If I was on them I'd be very concerned going off them. Thanks for explaining why it may be necessary to go off them.

Love the new segment! This is a great way to know if we should ask questions and who we should ask!
Although you might want to reiterate who should be asked the questions.
You're giving us some more great information and making us aware of how to better take care of our bodies! Because we are in charge of our health! And you've giving us the ability to do just that!
Thanks for sharing another great video!
You two are a pretty good influence! 😉

My loved one on Brilinta and had revision laparascopic fundoplication and doc did not ask her to stop it. She also took it after surgery then was given lovenox after surgery sonce she had a cardiac stent. She bled so much. Hemoglobin dropped to 3. Multiple blood and platelets transfusions and a laparotomy. Ended up dying. In this case anything that could have been done after realizing blood thinners were not stopped?

To answer your question, YES, you should do a series of 'Should I' videos. I found this first one to be interesting. Thank you, Doctors 👍

I was on 325 aspirin. Was having a double hernia surgery. I brought up stopping the aspirin first not the surgeon. It was stopped 7 days before the surgery. I ended up with a large hematoma. The surgeon is miles away. I told him and his staff and they considered me a whiner. After he saw me on the month follow up he profusely apologized. The hematoma was big and hard. He said he learned himself about blood thinner problems. So yes, stop even aspirin, and be especially careful with bleeding during surgeries. Four months out now, the hematoma is nearly gone and the swelling and bruising is fading away. Very uncomfortable to say the least these four months. Thank you, Stephen

I’d love to see you do a series of videos on “Head aches”. Migraines, rebound due to over medication and healthy ways to treat them.

Good info. Doctors should make this clear to their patients.

My Hubs is on a blood thinner and has hernia surgery coming up. I will make sure this is discussed with his surgeon. Thank you so much for this information.

How about doing one regarding stopping blood thinners AFTER surgery. A lot of doctors seem to believe that if you've ever had atrial fibrillation or anything like it, you should unquestionably be on some kind of radical blood thinner for life. Of course they discount the effects of things like aspirin, diet, fish oil, nattokinase, and another other factors that could have an impact.

I was told to administer my grandfathers blood thinner before a lung biopsy. I called the nurse the day before because I felt so uneasy about to. Sat in the phone for 45 min being reassured. I asked again at the hospital and was told to administer again the next day. Basically my grandfather ended up with his lungs filling with blood and died 3 weeks later. Sometimes dr’s make bad calls.

Hey docs! Could you do a video on the best supplements/vitamins for general health? Keep making your videos, they are all informative and great!

I'm recovering from surgery today and my Dr.'s said I "could" restart my Xarelto tomorrow, but should I? I would think the next 2 days would be ideal for benefitting from a clot in the wounded areas. I could use fish oil, aspirin and vitamin E (all as blood thinners) for those recovery days.

On Eliquis. Developed DVT from surgeries...would like to return to donating blood but RC Canada does not allow donations from people on thinners. Is there any situation that might allow someone to donate while on a blood thinner?...would a pause in the regimen allow a donation?
