We just briefly passed it this Friday/saturday, the 2 degrees critical threshold...so sadly no we didn't stop it. Sorry past Hank :(

Not without 'major sustained effort'. I am not even seeing minor temporary effort. We're going to hit that 5 degree increase, and more.

I like to focus on tech and science as much as most nerds, but when it comes to this subject I personally feel economics is the deciding factor here.
We simply waste too much. Way too much in fact. And it goes much further than the popular moral talk about food wastage.
Its in industry. Energy production. Transportation. Housing. The list goes on and on..

How could people not believe in climate change

Nah, we're fucked.

A cheerful note to go to sleep on. Soon those pesky humans will be going away after providing optimal temperature for us lizard people to live in.

I've seen a lot of people taking the time to preach "it's mostly the agricultural sector contributing to this!!!", so I'm just going to leave this statistic here:

CO2 and F-Gases emission due to industrial processes globally: 67% combined

Methane and Nitrous Oxide emission typical of agricultural activity globally: 22% combined

However, we all seem to have the same general idea that GW is horrible. We need to stop pointing fingers at each other and saying "It's your fault, you need to do this!". If we keep doing that, NOTHING will ever change.

Why is it that people trust engineers when they say their car is safe or doctors when they said their prescription is effective but not climate scientists when they say that climate change is happening??? A fact is still a fact even when it's inconvenient to you.

People will not make sacrifices until they have no other choice. Look at how pampered self-obsessed Americans refused to simply wear a mask in public or social distance to prevent spreading of covid.

Well heres a good question: what can we do, as non-engineers and non-scientist, do to help?

We're about to hit 1.5 next year in 2024.

The negative effects of climate change is the reason why I'm studying general science. Hopefully it'll get me to contribute in countering it, as knowing about the issues serve as a motivation to innovate.

I swear people will blame the creators of cars, factories, etc. But who's fault is it for the continued support of our lifestyles? Us. The consumers. We are to blame.

(eyeroll) Yeah, because so many previous predictions by these same groups were so accurate. Back when I was in high school, they claimed New York would be under 300ft of water by 2010. So much for that.

By 2100 there shouldn't be a 6% of CO2 emissions to contribute. If we are still dependent on fossil fuels by then, that would be really pathetic. Even if fusion isn't figured out by then.

We should run an ad about how having an energised populous can bring about real change, the example being CFCs and the hole in the ozone layer, in order help bring about similar solutions to global warming.

Yeah I do too

One thing that people don’t get, is that climate change is suppose to happen slow with its own carbon emissions. It doesn’t suppose to increasing in such levels. Human intervention is making the process thousands of year or even a million years earlier
