The man who clung to a high-speed train

Don't try this at home. Clinging onto the outside of a moving train is insanely dangerous, even if it's not a high-speed train doing more than 280 km/h.

There is already the Darwin award. Which he failed to win by a hair’s breath

I can confirm that the lost and found service is pretty good. I forgot my luggage on a sunday, filled out an online form, got an e-mail in the evening that the luggage had been found and I was able to retrieve it the next morning. It did cost me a 5€ fee, which was of course well worth it.

What strikes me is he was that desperate for a cigarette and he’d only gone not even half way across Bavaria.

As a person of extraordinary intelligence thanks for the shout out

To cut him some slack, our trains in Hungary sometimes have the speed of around 20km/h or worse.

The tunnels on this track or even a passing train could have easily blown him off. There is a reason why you need pressure-proof trains on high speed lines.
The train probably entered the 7, 2km long Tunnel before Kinding at near top speed. This stop is a overtaking station where only the RE1 gives a two-hourly service. The ICE does not stop here.

This exact scenario also happened in Denmark about a year ago, but with a less fortunate outcome. Before the train driver was alerted, the man had already fallen off the train and died. They only found his body a couple of weeks later.

I live close to kinding. I would never have imagine the name of this rural, unremarkable place in an English video

I'm going to start watching this view once-a-week. I really need that self esteem boost at the beginning.

"Jetzt günstig reisen mit den Sparpreisen", DB ad ran before the video started.

Unfortunately, many youngsters do this in the NY City Subway, and there have been several fatalities, despite that these trains never achieve such a speed.

Most of the NY fatalities involve not making tunnel clearance, but I think some were thrown off the train by a sudden acceleration/deceleration or a sharp curve.

wtf? A possible year in prison for riding without a ticket? My god that’s insane, I’m not sure but I don’t think there’s ANY prison time for that in my sweet Netherlands

So apparently clinging on to a high speed train has less consequences than not carrying a Ticket.

Note to self in Germany don’t fare dodge instead ride the roof you’ll get a misdemeanor instead of a felony

I'd heard of people jumping on top of trains and using large devices working like suction cups to hold on, calling their pastime "train surfing", partly even having that documented with drone footage.
Since this must have been an ICE train, I'm really baffled whatever this guy must have held onto... there isn't much "between carriages" on a German high speed train.

We need to change the fare-dodging law.
