The film is based on the true story of Mehran Karimi Nasseri, an Iranian refugee who lived at Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport between 1988 and 2006.
An Eastern European tourist finds himself unexpectedly stranded at JFK airport, and must take up temporary residence there.
Victor Navorski arrives at JFK airport from a politically unstable country. Due to the collapse of his government, his papers are no longer valid at the airport, so he is forced to remain there until the war subsides. He makes the airport his home and befriends the people who work there until he can leave.

He wasn’t stranded in the terminal for 18 years. The man that ran the airport security, Mr Dixon, had been working for the airport for 17 years and in his 18th year he had to deal with this man Victor living in the airport. But he was only stranded about 10 months.

As someone in a similar (slightly less comedic) situation I love this film. Really makes you feel empathy, an emotion I think we often dont use when people need us to.

Tom Hanks is and always has been an AMAZING actor. That man has always been extremely picky of his roles and he has never played a poor role. He is a true actor. He brings life to every role he's done. I don't think that I jave seen any movie done by/with him that was not simply a work of art.

Stanley, the actor who plays Frank, is a treasure!! He’s plays his role so well, you hate the character for what he does! That is the sign of a brilliant actor!
