As always, thanks for watching!
************************************

Hi everyone!

Here's my walkthrough of three new midi controllers from Novation; the LaunchPad Mini, the Launch Control and the Launchkey Mini.

As well as being fully compatible with midi enabled apps on your Mac or Windows PC, they're also designed to be fully integrated with Novation's own iPad apps, Launchpad and Launchkey. Plus they'll work with any other Core Midi compatible apps on iPad too.

The Launchpad and Launchkey iOS apps are free, and the upgrade to enable you to add in your own samples is a (cheap) in-app purchase. So even if you don't have any of these controllers, you should check out the apps anyway.

All music in the video is created using the royalty-free samples provided by Novation and Loopmasters with the apps and controllers.

Great demo, about to order the Launchpad mini.  For future reference, if the song is in C minor, probably best to avoid laying on the B natural key on the Launchkey.  It just sounded so wrong at 3:58.  B natural will sound good as a leading tone to the tonic C, or as part of C Melodic Minor scale, but that at 3:58 that arpeggiator was just hanging on the B note.  Kind of cringed, but it's all good.  Thanks for the demo.

Great Video. Straight and too the point. I do have a question, how can i record my performances within the launchpad app?

Hi thanks for the lovely video could you tell me whether it's going to work as a normal midi knob control for any DAW

Fantastic video, just so interesting to watch. Subscribed! Plus do fancy one of these units, should work with FL Studio 11, do you think?

"Crusty old iPad 2"?! Haha. I've got one too, and in fact it struggles to handle both Novation apps running simultaneously. But anyway, yeah, crusty and old. I'm gonna get an iPad Air.

I can't seem to find the launch control anywhere online, only the XL version. Has it been discontinued?

Just spend the extra on a Launchkey Pro and if you really need keys, grab a cheap as chips Arturia Keystep - so that will prob cost around 150 bucks more than the things you showed us here and a cheap iPad for Novation app.
Then, either use the app in the same way - or buy the intro version to Ableton Live for 70 bucks - upgrade it later.

But with the Launchpad Pro you have a machine that there really is nothing else on the market comes close. The sheer amount of commands and preset buttons is great but start adding macros or re-mapping it andvits easily one of the best pad controllers ever made.
I doubt anything will top this for a very very long time.
And the keystep is by far the best “cheap and portable” keyboard for its price - get one on eBay for 70 bucks....

Just my opinion but after using Ableton for a good 9 years, I’d say forget about buying all the cheaper yet also completely useless hardware when one bit of kit can do the lot - and 100 times more. The Launchpad Mini is really really bad for its price. Literally all it’s good for is triggering loops on the iPad app. Map it to anything like FL studio and be prepared to give up or just bin it. It’s so against working with other apps they’d be as well just market it as a “Novation Launchpad iOS app controller” because even trying to do the very basic other tasks - cue points in Traktor, an actual Ableton controller, an”on the fly sampler” etc. will just resulting pulling hair out.

Maybe this video was made before the Pro came out, in which case sorry - but to make out those bits of hardware are any kind of good, except being small enough for easily carrying around, is really misleading as they all really suck. Badly.

Where do you connect the USB from the launchpad, launchkey, and ipad? Are you using a USB hub? Please show how all of it are connected. Thanks

Can you use the Launchpad MINI with a Launchkey 25, instead of the Launchkey MINI? If so, what USB hub should I use to hook them up to my iPad 3????

Can't a launch key do all of whats on the launch control? What benefit is it? I honestly don't know, help me out. I'm going to invest in a launchpad and launch key but not sure weather to get a launch control as well. I'm interested in doing mashups as well as adding triggers and effects for use in my band.
