I was JUST diagnosed type 1 on May 21st, so last week. I had the same symptoms and my blood sugar was over 500. It was hard at first because no one wants this but I'm starting to accept it. I'm posting my story soon. I enjoyed your story ❤❤❤

I was diagnosed on January 22, 2019, and my blood sugar was 656 and went up to 700. I almost died that day and I just thank God for keeping me and I always tell my mom thanks for not going to work that day.

My daughter was diagnosed 2 months ago and she did have the normal symptoms (drinking a ton, peeing so much, hungry all the time, super cranky) but she did get thrush bad that wouldn't go away right before diagnosis. One other symptom she had was night terrors. Her blood sugar was over 1000 at diagnosis and her A1C was 17.5 and DKA. She went undiagnosed by her old pediatrician for over a year!

hi michelle! I have just discovered your youtube channel & I am obsessed with it!💕 I am a 17-year-old type 1 diabetic myself, and I have had it since I was 5 years old. I love how you are raising awareness about diabetes and uplifting other diabetics because we are a strong group of people! keep inspiring others, I have a dexcom monitor as well and an insulin pump! I don't let diabetes get in my way of living a full and happy life, I am involved in musical theatre and music activities which are my two passions!☺

364! I was 23 at the time and lost 30 pounds over the summer, woke up every hour to go to the bathroom, constantly thirsty, and a foggy mind. I ignored all the signs, which is terrible because I’m a NURSE!!! 😡

thanks for sharing! This was really interesting to hear an experience so different from mine. I was diagnosed just over two months ago after losing about 20 pounds really quickly. I went to the doctor who took some blood tests and my fasting HbA1C was above 14. He told me I likely had T2D because of my age at 21 (even though I was 80 pounds) and help me set up an appt with an endo later that week. When I got to the endo, they tested my blood sugar and I was over 650 and she immediately sent me to the hospital where they told me I had DKA. I spent over 3 days there. It was a crazy time & I'm still getting used to living with T1D, but your videos have helped me so much through this time!

I had around 500 and had a DKA 6 weeks ago. I was more than a week in hospital. Everything is currently very fresh and your videos are helping me a lot to get used to it! Thanks that you are sharing your experiences and challenges, it keeps my head up!

I was 7 when I was diagnosed. We had just moved and I was wetting the bed, which is very unusual for a 7 year old. I had lost a lot of weight and was peeing all the time. I remember just standing in the shower and drinking water cause I couldn't quench my thirst. When my mom took me to the doctor my blood sugar was over 1, 000. Mine progressed in 3 days. That's all it took. 3 days.

mine was around 360 which i thought wasn’t that bad compared to some who were 800 or 900 but yours was really caught early!

So...it started in the 2nd grade where i was constant peeing and lazyness was hitting. i would wake up at 2pm everyday if no one were to wake me up. my mom said let’s go to the doctor after months of symptoms. i told her that i’ll go to the doctor if i could get dunkin’ donuts and panera after..she said sure. then once i got to the doctor they checked my blood sugar and rushed me to the hospital. my blood sugar was 784 and if i waited any day longer i could’ve died. thx to my mom and dad i got the treatment i needed but i didn’t get my food i wanted after the doctor ... what a quincendence

Your story made me cry.. It's really moving! Mine was at 28 mmol/l and I have it since 30 october 2017.
That's fine you had your cousin to help you with this diagnostic!

Thank you for telling your story. My 8 year old son has been diagnosed this February with T1, He had been taken into hospital and diagnosed with severe DKA and spent 5 days in a HDU before they let him out. His blood was 24.6mmol (443mg/dL) and his DKA was 6.3! We have struggled with support and hospital visits due to the lockdowns but YouTube has been brilliant for him to see other peoples stories and experiences so at least he doesn't feel like he is the only one affected.

I just got diagnosed over a month ago at age 18. We're still running testing for the specific type but I've been on insulin injections for about a month and have been fully dependent on them. There's not really any people in my family who are type 1 or type 2.
My symptoms included frequent skin infections, increased thirst and urination, exhaustion, irritability, headaches, blurry vision, and I woke up one day in my dorm room and almost passed out. I went to a urologist because of the frequent urination (we thought it was my bladder muscles because of the frequent infections I had in the area). They detected A LOT of sugar in my urine and decided to do a blood test. The next day they called me at 7am and told me I was diabetic and that I needed to go to the hospital because my blood sugar was at 657 and I had an A1C of 16.4%.

I got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when I was 7 years old. My story is sort of similar to yours except my symptoms were that I needed to pee a lot. One day I woke up and my stomach started to hurt and I didn’t feel like eating anything so my parents took my to the doctor and the first thing they did was take my blood sugar. They told me later that day that I had type one diabetes. I was a little kid back then and so I thought it was the end of the world. I remember crying my eyes out and thinking nothing would ever be the same again. I honeymooned for 2 years and after that it got a bit harder to deal with but I’ve got a great family that supports me everyday! I’m so happy you shared your story it’s good to see others share their experience

Hi Michelle! Just a quick message from London. I slumped in my chair at work at 32 on Monday and was rushed to hospital with my Blood Glucose at 50 and DKA. The Type 1 diagnosis has come as a shock, but your story (though different) has made me feel just that little bit better about tackling this.

I hope you continue to share and if in any way these comments inspire you to continue...I'd be a happy man.

Your story made me cry I don't even know why it affected me so much since I don't have diabetes or know anyone with type 1 diabetes but it was really emotional. I guess this fear of getting something you already know is "bad" is quite strong.

Interesting to read your comments. I’m 75 and I was diagnosed almost 57 years ago when I was 19 years old. There was no A1c and I don’t think I was told about a blood sugar number and I had to wait about 9 days to see a doctor. I around on physical for college. I spent three days in the hospital to figure out an insulin dose and sent home doing urine tests to determine control but I never changed the dose. I did meet a wonderful woman who was a dietician and that’s who taught me how to eat which was the most important part of my diabetes education. There was no carbohydrate information on food packages so I ate by how many carbs in a quantity of food. Now I have I have a pump and cgm oh and two normal kids and the same man I married 54 years ago and my a1c is around 6.1. Good luck to all of you but I know if I could do it so can you.

My diagnosis was strange too. I was diagnosed May 23, 2013. I was 27 at the time. I felt sick at the end of the previous July, and the doctor thought I had strep. I went on antibiotics for a bit, but I didn’t feel any better. I was working out a lot, so I was losing weight fast. Waking up all the time to pee, drinking water all the time it was awful. I would get home from work in the afternoon and just pass out. Every test they ran came back negative, so people didn’t know what was going on. They looked at my A1C back in the summer and it seemed fine, so we never looked at it again until May when I was around 110 pounds, so I lost 70 pounds in that time. They checked it again, and told me they’d let me know in the afternoon. I got home, ate a late breakfast around 10. Next thing I know I’m waking up to a phone call 2 hours later. They said they wanted to send an ambulance to get me because their machines couldn’t read my A1C. It was that high. So, instead of paying a lot of money for an ambulance I drove to the clinic to find out I have diabetes. I remember walking into the office and the doctor asked how was I alive going without insulin for that long. Lol
