In September 2020 I met up with Chris Kerr (AKA Whiskeytwentyone) and Matt Smart from @SytnerTV to look at the development of arguably one of the best BMW M cars to ever be made.
Launched in 2016 - the BMW M2 was a head liner grabber from day one. loved by journalists and enthusiasts alike, the car was an instant classic.

In 2018 - The critics of the OG M2 were answered with the launch of the BMW M2 Competition. Gone was the single turbo n55 engine, in came the s55 from the M3/M4 variants. But whilst it was the engine that grabbed the headlines, the reality was that the chases and handling was the big leap forward. Again, the car received huge praise from all corners... but it wasn't without its controversy...

With new EU regulations came more stringent exhaust emission standards and OPF filters!
Finally, the swan song! The M2 CS was launched only a few weeks ago, with orders of the limited run now completely sold out. is this the ultimate version of one of BMW's most recent success stories... Or a step too far????

We met up at Caffeine & Machine to discuss and debate the 4 years of evolution along with an "exhaust off" for you to enjoy...

Agree I’m an M2 owner, I test drove a comp as was planning to upgrade, I didn’t, just realised I genuinely prefer the OG
I love the sound and drama of the OG 😛

Another thumbs up. I’m another M2 OG manual owner - 2 years ownership and lucky to have driven a Comp. Totally agree with the verdict. Great to finally find a review of all generations.

I was on the market for an M2 when the M2C came out. I heard it, and just like in your video, I said to myself there is no way my first M car is going to sound like that...so I went for a new LBB M2 OG for a bargain price and could not be happier!

You can add 500 or 700hp to the newer models but i’ll take the OG cause of that exhaust note thats the best sensation when driving

This vid makes me feel pretty special. I just picked up a one owner, completely standard, non crashed, fully BMW serviced with complete records from new OG M2 for 14k.

I THINK I may have snagged the cheapest OG M2 on the planet...

Just bought a mint, 1 owner, 25, 900 mile OG M2.
I'd have bought the M2C but for the same mileage they are still 12-15 grand more.

All the M2's are good. I have the 2018 OG w/DCT and executive package in mineral grey and it's a looker. A lot of compliments.

I just picked up a 2020 M2C DCT and I’m really excited about it. I have an E46 M3 which I still really enjoy but the M2C is an amazing car.

Got my OG LBB just under 34k. Have since spent £7k in mods which include the engine brace from the M3/4/M2C/M2CS and it makes the ride more compliant and sorts the chassis out. Got a milltek 300cel sports cat and the sound from stock exhaust is heavenly. Heard an M2C in a car park and anaemic is the term to use there! Also putting a larger bore turbo inlet has let it rev to red line better, that and chargepipe change (they can break) and upgraded FMIC.

Great video I just picked up an og M2 lbb and I was being kinda sad that everyone has been telling me that i should gotten a competition.
After seeing the video I'm happy with my choice now .
I'm not looking for insane power, I'm looking to have good fun and a reliable car. The n55 of the M2 is a closed deck block with forged crank and rods, a bit different from other n55 engines

Great video! I own a M2 Comp. And have a M2 CS in order. Here is how I see it:
$9K for the carbon ceramics
$8k for the for them extra CF parts (interior/exterior/body parts)
$3K for the better leather and additional Alcantara
$4K for the better suspension
$2K for the wheels
$1K for the GOLD wheels LOL
$1.5K more power
$5K for exclusivity
Base M2 Comp: $65K
We are are $98.5K
I believe that the sticker on my CS is $94K.
So, we are “within range”. No “deal” but about right.

Great video, with some nice insight. OG M2 will be my next car and this has helped me to know I am making the right decision.
